They will also eat courgette ours eats the courgette that we put in for the other plecs.
It is correct that they need a mainly carniverous diet we feed our Arabesque frozen bloodworm, brineshimp, mussel Hikari wafers ect.

gold nugget feature (catfish of the month)
I have noticed that the gold nugget feature on this excellent catfish site (catfish of the month) has changed slightly, the L numbers listed with pictures next to them. The picture that used to be for the L177 is next to L018 and L177 now has a new picture. Sounds like I've become an anorack and I ...

I tried adding a clown plec to our planted tank but took him out after a day because he did not look happy . This was a" norma l" planted set up with added CO2. I think that the CO2 was the problem either the lowered pH or the level of CO2 in the water. I know you are only adding CO2 to one tank but ...

Tank for gold nugget
We have had our gold nugget for a year now and he has grown to 2.5 inches :D . At the moment he is in a 2 foot tank filtered by an ehiem external 2233 ecco. I realise that he will outgrow the 2 foot tank and am looking at bigger tanks. Would a 36 by 12 inch tank be big enough, we are limited by ...

can carbon affect water chemistry ?
I had a problem that the pH dropped from 7 to 6 and the KH went from 3 to zero and dropped again even after adding KH buffer ( Kent marine pH stable). The only thing different was that I used carbon granules (in the external filter) from a different shop. I removed the carbon and did a water change ...

How big has your gold nugget grown and Tank size
We have got a large spot gold nugget L 177 he is doing very well :D and has grown to 3 inches . I think that he could do with a bigger tank as I am struggling to keep nitrates down below 20 ppm. I am doing a water change every 3 to 4 days, if I leave it the nitrates rise to 40 ppm. He lives with a ...

I have had my panaque now for 10 months. During the day when the lights are on he sits under a piece of bogwood, usually in sight but away from the light. The tank has 5 pieces of bogwood with plants, but he always retires to the same piece of wood away from the light. In fact both the panaque and ...

Ceramic in tank
Am I right in assuming a couple small Ceramic pet bowls is OK in tank and that nothing untoward will leach out into the water? I want to put plants in gravel in a couple of small bowls rather than into substate as it will be a lot easer to clean out tank. I already have 2 Hygrophila plants in the ...

Feeding mussels ( to gold nuggets)
Am trying to vary the diet of our gold nugget a bit to give him some meat in addition to his main diet of hikari wafers and corgette. Compatibility of different pleco species
Am I right in thinking that different species of pleco get along OK, it is only when you add two the same such as two panques that they may fight, I have one tank with a 5 inch gibbiceps and a 2 inch panque they get along well and will even share the same bogwood ( there are 4 picies of wood in the ...

Reverse osmosis unit anyone here use one
Am thinking of getting one as I have trouble collecting enough rainwater for 3 tanks.
Does anyone have any basic info on them like how do you know when to change the carbon prefilter and how long do the filters and membranes last
I dont use tapwater as they add chloramine where I live
thanks

He is about 5 inches at the mo and doing realy well :D Got him when he was about 2 inches. He is in a 36 by 15 by 18inch tank with a large external filter. I changed over the sponge in the external filter to siporax sintered glass rings 6 weeks ago.
