Re: Over the last week
The under gravel had been off some a few weeks, it's safe because the water under the plate is colder than the tank water so the toxins don't rise (basic thermodynamics) but i think the external cannister had died for about 3-5 days before i reallised and put in the internal cannister. The water has ...

Over the last week
I've had my nuggets in the same cave and now my Lda33 is fanning heavily only i don't know if it is distress or actual fanning because i had the under gravel stop (so i couldn't restart it and then the external cannister stopped as well so i had to put an internal filter in but the weather did ...

I think you have a pair with fish 1 a girl and fish 2 seems to be the boy.
I've never had these though so take my thought here with a grain of salt.

You seem to have two males and three females judging by the ventral fins and ventral rays.

Nearly finished
Hi all, i just completed cleaning out a 6'x18"x18" tank and put in the undergravel filter plates so i only have to boil the gravel properly before i run it in for my nuggets to breed in( so exciting). I had an idiot parasite/poisin the tank(an imbecile by the name of lee/counterstriker) so it ...

Re: LDA33 suddenly died
LDA33's are chlorine/chloramine sensitive and the water change might have done it if the new water hit the fish before your dechlorinator kicked in. I lost mine (6") this way after moving to an area with an extraordinarily high chloramine level in the water supply. The fish died immediately after a ...

Re: New L204s--Please help verify sex
At 4.5cm tl these are very easy to sex as shown in aqualog books(all Lno.s or The most beatiful Lno.s). I would also suggest that you look closely at the fin between the dorsal and tail fins as with a large number of loricariidae that fin is pointed or hooked in males and much more rounded in ...

Re: How to sex small fry
In that case i'll have a go at it mate thanks for that appreciated. The nugget there seems to be a girl if you look at the top fin just in front of the tail fin,but don't quote me on that lol as mine(males) tend to be sharp or hooked at the tip of this fin.

G'day Mats.P. I've used this method for years now with only limited species though(certainly not all)! While i don't have any photo's i dare say that someone will hopefully put up a pic or two or i'm going to have to learn how-lol. Perhaps you might be kind enough to do this as i do care to ...

How to sex small fry
Even fry as small as two centimetres can be sexed accurately if you look very closely. With L333 catfish and a host of others you will see that the ventral fins are very useful in this. The L333 catfish tend to be rounded in this area when female while the males tend to have a pronounced ventral ray ...

Re: white worm + daphnia
I had white worm/flat worm in a tank with peppermints and they loved them unfortunately i had to eliminate hydra as both came through tap water. If you can get a pure colony though you'll be in good stead with your fish and cut your food bills dramatically as they just take off in numbers in a well ...

Re: L 239 baryancistrus beggini
The fin on the top of the back just prior to the tail fin is often rounded in females and sharp or hooked in males within baryancistrus species. I hope this helps you as i must admit this is another species that i care to gain an adult pair/trio for breeding although in Australia we have extremely ...

Give black worms a try they are highly nutritious and don't have chitlin(as chitlin can block intestines-blood worms have chitlin). You can also feed them shrimp pellets and carnivor pellets.

Re: L333 hypancistrus breeding?!?-need advise
I use ph 6.8,gh8,kh4-5 and keep at 28-30c breed with every water change. I do use a separate water change tank so that i can fully treat any water before it goes into my fish tanks. I also use easter island heads as a spawning site ( you have to smooth off any sharp areas though). Frozen bloodworm ...

Re: L046 (plecos) and volcanic rocks (lava)
Mate i would be very wary of volcanic rock simply for the fact that the Xingu River rocks are extremely old and trace element poor so any volcanic rock must be from an area that is equally as old and element poor (not just the sharp edges that are very dangerous). Being river rocks the elements have ...

Sorry mat i'd have to say keep her in with both males as the girls like a choice and i've found in my experience that an inverted trio is top level. I've L270 and L333 and the markings could be of either species however the bodily odontonodal growth makes me think that this is a different species so i'd have to say L129 or other. I hope that helps at least a little.
