What gender of these L200?

Post by Cristoffer Forssander »

Hello!

I got five of these L200, H. subviridis, that I need some help to sex!

I'm sure about the big one, that is a male, but the rest seemes a bit unsure to me! I think there are borh genders in the group.

I'm quite rubbish at this, but going by headshape, I'd say fish 3 & 4 are male and remaining fish are female. Please do wait for someone else (Neil/Sojapat or Haavard for example) to confirm.

Nice looking fish.

Hello

Thanks!
I've been thinking the same about these fishes... but I'm still also a bit unexperienced in these fishes.

They are very nice indeed... the coloration and spots are much better than some other L200 I have.

You seem to have two males and three females judging by the ventral fins and ventral rays.

Could you explain? I've never heard that you can differentiate them by ventral fins and rays.

Neither had I until Rohan mentioned it. I guess he didn't want to share the details - as I asked for photos, and he said he'd supply some, but I haven't seen any. Maybe because I refused to change the growth rate of Gold Nuggets from "grows very slowly" to something more like "doubles in size every 12-24 months" - I'm not saying Rohan is wrong there, but I'd like to have a little bit more substance than one person who is a relative newcomer to the site saying so.

I think that no 2. is a female because of the narrow head. The body also seems wider in 2 and 4 thats seemes to be males.
The males lost most odonts cause of the shipping and as they grow back, it's boing to be more easy to se.

But I agree on the rest of them!

Thanks!
