Re: L411?

With that picture it's really hard to tell but that looks like my L411. That is how they look and if you have L260s in the same tank, they are VERY easy to tell apart.

JOOLS I'm SORRY I Broke it!

I tried to do a my cats page and it's not putting my usernic up there on the fish I've added. I had tried to add, L129, L260, L262, L270 so far, I think that was all of them... I finally figured it out and tried to do it and I BROKE IT! :embar:

Thanks for the suggestions. I fed a med. sized potatoe and it was GONE in less than 2 days (along with regular wafers and left over fish food). I'm trying some of the other things you suggested and he really likes the stuff (just seems to go bad a bit quicker than potatoe in the warmer tank). I ...

Spotted Royal

I have a question. I've always wanted a royal and was fortunate enough to get a large beautiful 'spotted royal'. It has acclimated fine and eats fine. The issue I'm having is feeding enough for the poor thing to stay healthy looking. If I go for ONE whole day without feeding, it becomes hollow ...

I'd suggest tilting the cave so he can't fan them out. Tilt the cave so the mouth of the cave is lifted up a 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch or so. Being a first time daddy he's probably pretty excited and is just fanning them right out the door. The rest left with dad should be fine...

Although the pics are 'clear' they don't show enough detail on these fish. I have this particular kind and when THAT big, it's pretty clear to tell who is who and with your pics, I can't..... Sorry....

I can tell you one thing, the females sometimes like to go in the caves first. BUT, once a male ...

Bought as L333

I have a pair of fish that have been spawning like crazy. They have 2 batches of young out of the cave and are working on batch #3 in the last 4 months.... Here is a pic of the male. The female has the same tail and the same basic pattern. They are more of a very light white/gray on black or very ...

L333 Spawn Again?

My L333s spawned about a month ago. I noticed he didn't have a problem coming out to eat once I shut the lights out in the tank or have trouble keeping the others away from his cave while he ate. Most of the fry are out, he's got a couple hanger onners but all are looking fat and healthy and doing ...

I have mine in a 90g and that seemed about right for one full grown adult pair. They can get rather large. I'm using the tank now to grow some smaller ones out and am looking for another male for my female to put in another 90g. I'd HAVE to agree on a larger tank. They can be pretty nasty to others ...

Boy, you're not kidding about the growth rate on those babies! I'll just leave them alone and start another season when all the fry are out. They must be coming out to eat, they are all fat and all growing at an alarming rate! Even the few that have come out already.
Thanks for the input!

Fry Release

My L333 is letting his fry out. I was going to put him and the cave into a specially built trap so I could keep an eye on the fry till they got bigger. Well, best intentions aside, apparently I waited a little too long. Anyone out there with experience with fry released into a colony? I CAN move the ...

I've owned both L199 and L270. I'd have to lean toward the L270 due to the body coloration (even though the fish looks like it is showing a bit of stress coloration). L199 has the more 'gold-ish' head with more 'white' on the body. Also, with the L199 the stripes tend to be more 'straight' or even ...

L204 Breeding Question

I just wonder if it is better to have one pair or two in a tank to induce spawn?

Let me explain.....

I have a full grown pair of L204s. It is pretty easy to tell them apart once they reach sexual maturity (good thing for me being newer to suckie fish).

The female is constantly playing 'tail ...

It does take wild caughts some time to eat. Even just moved fish take a few days to 'get hugry'. Don't worry, they will not 'starve', their self preservation will kick in and they will start trying anything laying around once they get hungry enough.. Fish can go a very long time without food ...
