Inquiring about L-182

Hi, I am inquiring about the potential size of L-182. I currently have a female that is bordering on 7", catching up in numbers and likely to hit 8" by the end of her life. I have heard of this particular species reaching sizes equivalent to the quoted TL from multiple sources, if not larger. Does this coincide with the experiences of others on this board?

I believe that L 182 might be the sp. that we caught lots of during this trip. The Rio Branco is not that far from Leticia and we found this Ancistrus sp. (assuming it is L 182) to be common in blackwaters. They were always found on or very near driftwood. The largest we caught on this trip were probably 6-7 inches TL. I brought home three small specimens.
Here is a fair sized male from a Colombian exporter.

Years ago I had a male that was easily 8". I've seen newly imported specimens that were definitely male at as small as 4", so I'd guess you could work with them at smaller sizes. The pair that I have right now is a 6"+ male and a female that's 5" or very close to it. They recently spawned when I was unprepared for it (I didn't realize they were ready, oops, they did!) and the female laid easily a couple hundred eggs. It was by far the largest ancistrus spawn I've ever had. Now if only they weren't in Spokane tap water at the time and had been fertile ;).

cuz we all know barbie can use more ancistrus fry right? I'm getting another box of them. they should be around 5-6". Miguel offers me them at 8" but really it's not worth the freight charges to bring them up here when as Barbie said 6" is a good size adult to start breeding.

I am actually surprised that no one has put a scientific name to this sp. given how common it is from Iquitos down into Brasil. It should not be that difficult to figure out.

Seriously though, my Hypancistrus are on hiatus and my Ancistrus are having frequent wife swapping parties. It's just weird. I'm sure it must be the water ;).

I vote for Ancistrus linderus so hurry up and get busy Shane ;).

we should stop calling them fish and start calling them jello cuz there is always room for more
