Recommended depth of polystyrene under aquarium
I've just taken delivery of my new tank, 54*24*24 (approx 500lt, 130 USG) - can someone recommend what thickness of polystyrene would be sensible to sit it on? looks like I can get tiles which are about 8mm or insulation sheets at 25mm
Thanks
Nik
Thanks
Nik

Re: If you could do anything...
but i'll settle for a 10-12 foot tank in the near future! :D I think the mention of anything around that size would be met with scowls at best...maybe full blown rage. Darrel - thanks for the links, confirmed what I thought was gonna be the case. Do you have any diagrams showing a wet/dry planted ...

Re: If you could do anything...
Thanks for all your comments, very useful! I have quiet a lot more information now about the kind of thing we're thinking about. Having spoken to my LFS at length today they are getting me prices on a custom size 'Pheonix' tank. I've properly measured the available space I'm getting 48 * 24 * 24 and ...

Re: If you could do anything...
Its interesting you support the sump in freshwater tank idea - I've spoken to quite a lot of people who think they are only necessary in marines, but IMO seems a much more sensible and cost effective solution, especially compared to the price of some of the newer Eheim units. Been out looking at a ...

If you could do anything...
Hi All I used to post on here quite a few years ago now when I was a student...then real life caught up with me! Anyway, I'm now in a position now to fit a new freshwater aquarium in my house - its going to be custom built and therefore I can design it exactly as I want. And therein lies the problem ...

thanks got the suggestions... I'll have to find out what L number Golden Nugget my LFS stocks. I also kind of looked into L200's before, and I've seen one in a shop marked L200 that was beautiful, although from colouring I think it was probably an L128. My problem is that to get some of these fish I ...

Durlanger - the whole tank is like a test piece, just to see what we like and don't, not designed as a specific habbitat. The fish seem happy anyway :) I'm not sure with the new tank if it will really be habitat themeed either, more depeneds what looks good and will get along with each other. Thanks ...

no, not yet. I'm hopefully moving into my new room on the 12th june, and the tank currently occupies my living room. in bits. One thing though, it was previously used as a marine tank, and although pretty clean I'm sure there is gonna be salt residue in there somewhere. How important is it to get ...

We took him back to the lfs and there was no illness but we did realsie afterwards that he had been kept in a tank with discus at the lfs and so he was use to a pH much lower than what was the recomended pH. We got 4 new corys and 2 baby cat fish can't remember the names but they eat everything that ...

I checked him this morning and he had died :( I dont know why there are no marks and no visible illness. I am taking him to the lfs and they will have a look at him for me. Just got a new trigon 350 and will be getting about 5 of them once the tank is ready and I will be using sand in that tank as ...

Finally got a trigon 350 with stand for my room from e-bay for £350 minus lights and filter, absolute bargain as I was going to change both anyway. How we got it in a Fiat Punto I will never know, pure faith maybe

he's still not doing very much, just sits on the bottom and looks kinda unstable, water current seems to move him very easily. he is breathing and looking around though, but I'm not sure if he's breathing a little hard. does he need a high level of dissolved oxygen? I think the Co2 might have been ...

since the first time me and my gf went to our lfs there has been this one fish that always looked lonely and really sad. I'm 21, not been into catfish that long, not kept a tropical tank for that long (about a month) but found even before I got it that this site, and especially the forums contain a wealth of knowledge. I'm a member of several similar forums, but Planet Catfish seems to have the edge. I don't know if ...

Dissolved Co2 levels
I've recently purchased a C02 system for my 50g tank, and included with it was a permanent Co2/PH kit. Now, I love German made equipment, as with all German equipment it seems very solidly built. But can they translate a manual (properly, in clear English) or provide much information? not a chance ...

thanks very much for clarifying that Shane, will keep the temperature as it is. Just got home from the LFS, they looked at the fish and couldn't find any visible reason why it would have died, tested out water as well and found it was perfect. They've replaced it free of charge, and the new fish it ...

thanks for the replies... The cat-e-log info has BN;s temperature range at 22 - 24 deg c, thats why I kept it down a much as I could...and the female seems to be fine still. is this a mistake in the cat-e-log? Just went down to look and she was cleaning leaves. I'm aware of the potential problems ...
