Amanda,
I would agree with Yann. My males are much more distinct in thier coloration than the females.

I'm not sure that the subject is accurtely stated but here is what I just observed: I refreshed the screen after being away for awhile in order to see any new posts. On the Board Index screen it stated that the current time was Thur Jan 31 11:40am. On the right side of the screen, it stated that my ...

Re: When is a species not a species?
Matt didn't say it directly but it bears saying that we need to keep a degree of perspective about this subject. It makes an interesting thread and causes me at least to want to do additional reading. A light intellectual discussion. There is no right or wrong answer as there is no right or wrong ...

Re: When is a species not a species?
... there are many papers where phylogenies are presented reporting nomenclatural incongruence, but no re-examination of material and subsequent reclassification is taking place.
If you are saying that there are phylogenies based on DNA data being presented that highlight issues of classification ...

Re: When is a species not a species?
" Were species merely arbitrary, then approaches like DNA barcoding would be more serious alternatives to good taxonomy; but they are not. Species emerge when traits and characters are differentiated and patterns of distribution of the latter are critically analyzed. "
DNA tests can tell one ...

Re: is 40 l tank is enough big for my plecs ?
I would second the thought that 40L is too small. That is not much room for even a few rummynose or a chocolate gourami. Most of my tanks a 40G and in that size you can have several small plecos like the 260, a small shoal of 10-15 rummynose and still not be overcrowded as long as you have an ...

Not sure who or where you heard that an albino and normal BN cross would result in sterile young, but that is incorrect as indicated by your babies.

Re: Is this one L147???
Technically, it doesn't have a 'sientific name' other than Peckoltia sp. as it has not been characterized and the results published in a recognized journal. But it continues to look like a young L147. Let's see what it looks like in 6-12 months when it has put on some growth.

Re: Is this one L147???
Your fish looks a lot like a young L147 Take a look at the second picture in the second row (sorry, don't know how to attach links).
I also doubt that you could get a L387 for 8 Euros.

I would agree with L147, but a young one that hasn't developed the typical spotted pattern on the back of the body.

Hi,
I'm new to this forum. I noticed that there was no mention of using Baking Soda (sodiumbicarbonte) as a buffer. Using Baking Soda allows you to increase the KH without increasing the GH. I have a 170gal planted tank and use a combination of tap water and RO to keep the GH at 3-6. I do 20% weekly ...

Morning Barbie,
I was wondering if you could provide the details of how you simulated a 2 week rainy season.
thanks,
