Wow! Thanks...
Well, everybody seems to agree! L201, then. After reviewing the pics, I'd have to agree based on physical appearances. I'll try to get a better pic, too. Is it true that the 007 does not have transparent dorsal and caudal fins? Somebody told me that wa a sure-fire way of ruling out L007...just ...

L005 or 007?
Or neither? I have inspected for the typical tooth but can't see one. I don't think he's an L007 - tho its been suggested - he was marked L005 at the store. He's not as yellow as the pic makes him appear...that's the driftwood in my 125 gallon tank making it look more yellow than he was at the store ...

L29?
How do you know its an L29? I ask because I have a pleco that I'm not sure if he's an L005 or an L007. I see no tooth that's present on the vampires. I'll start my own posts, but just thought I'd ask here since you were talking about the very pleco I was wondering about - but no mention of checking ...

Ae?
Does it have to be a pleco? I personally find my golden algea eater to be ideal in all my tanks. Goldens are color morphs of the chinese algea eater. I have 2 in a 125 gallon tank, they tend to be aggressive towards their own kind, but rather placid towards others. 1 - 5" GAE can clean my 55 gallon ...

The ringlets on the tail look like my Liposarcus Pardalis, but maybe other plecos share the rings on the tail?

Is the dorsal fin always clear? Or is it usually black with 3 little spots at the bottom caudal side? Looks like a c. leucomelas to me...but there are so many species to pick from.

Oh well...I'll keep looking and trying
I almost knew it wasn't once I saw the pics, and there is another thread that mention the L260 and when I browsed for it, it looked an awful lot like mine...
Well, I guess I plopped down 36.00USD on the wrong fish! LOL.

IS this an L066?
He's very small, about 2" (if that), but his marking are similar to others. His dorsal markings doesn't look like the other L066's I've seen. Could it be because he's juvenile? Here he is: http://www.badmanstropicalfish.com/message_board/messages/142/16368.jpg http://www.badmanstropicalfish.com ...

4. Frisckey - what is a BGK? I don't think blackwaters tend to be still waters. Blackwater is due to incomplete decomposition of debris...not necessarily slow moving water. It is not a contradiciton. Many beautiful pl*cos are found in blackwater rivers and require fast current. BGK = Black ghost ...

Oh, yeah
Along with my suggestion, please keep in mind that BGKs are large fish, with a full grown size of nearly 2 feet. So you'll need a big tank for one of those. Ottos do OK in current... And, correct me if I'm wrong, but blackwaters tend to be still waters, no? With all the debri and lack of current ...

Agreed!
I have C. leucomelas and the spots are smaller and follow a not so perfectly straight pattern down the body. Leucomelas has less pattern in the dorsal, more black (usually), and a snubier (word?) nose. I have 2 leucomelas http://www.corydorasworld.com/gallery3/albums/albun37/cory1.sized.jpg http ...

Water changes and bacteria
Water changes will not harm the benefecial bacteria in any way. The bacteria you need to keep your tank cycled is located mostly in teh filter. If you have a UGF, I'd recommend using caution when gravel vac'ing around the UGF plate, although, your probably due for a cleaning anyway. I'm in agreement ...

Fast Currents...
I keep my L. Pardalis in with a black ghost knife. They like current. They can be nippy sometimes, tho. I've been very successful with mine, and they are the best of friends, even share a cave. But much care must be taken in observing to be sure Blackie (BGK) isn't pecking at Monty (L.P.) at dinner ...

Hmmm
What are you feeding your pleco? Do you feed everyone at the same time? Your absolutely POSITIVE no one is picking on him, even at night? A ragged fin would indicate fin rot or aggression by another fish. Fin rot sounds unlikely if your keeping your tank clean and nitrates are under 20 m/l all the ...

I too purchased one today, 35.99 US Dollars and would love to hear more about their preferences and care. Read Shane's article, fascinating stuff. I keep shrimp pellets for my corys - so I'll drop in a few tonight at feeding time, see if he comes out. How to tell if its male or female? Any 1 ...

IMO, the markings on wrong for a pardalis, the pattern isn't quite right. Just thought I'd throw in my .02, for what its worth LOL

H. Punctatus, right?
Just wanted to know for sure if that's what mine is - he displays very similar markings, except he doesn't have spots, per say, more of a "network" marking, except on the dorsal and caudal, where he has sort ofa striping. His tail is edged in orange/black rings, the rest of him is brown/lightbrown ...

Temps
You won't have a temp issue with the cories - they'll do fine in that temp. Theonly issue you'll have is keeping the bacteria at bay. Like we discussed - its rather effectely kept in check with fresh, clean water. Its likely the bacteria was on the fish already when you purchased them and mulitplied ...

Boogeyman!
LOL, never thought of it like that. Flexibacter is particularly, umm, reproductive in warmer waters, so try to keep the tanks on the cooler side if you can. With 50-70% water changes weekly, it will be hard for that bacteria to flourish, as the favorable conditions it needs to multply won't be ...

Flexibacter Bacteria
Columnaris is caused by the flexibacter bacteria and warm temps definitely stimultes growth. Columnaris can also be noted by the outlining of scales in white, or scales that come off in patches, it often looks like a fungus, but is not a true fungus. Some refer to it as mouth fungus, because it ...

Oh, and if the fin rot is progressing fast like mine did, the hydrogen peroxide dripped on the rotting area stopped the progression and killed the subsequent fungus that followed right behind. I do believe your cories would survive a salt dip, briefly. I actually kept mine in a 20 gallon with 1.5 ...

Sick Cory

Nobody has warned poor Paulo that you can't add 60 corydoras to a ?53 or 55? gallon tank? Even if he resolves whatever it is that's killing off his fish now, he'll still have problems keeping ammonia & nitrites under control. Nevermind you shoul NEVER EVER add so many fish to a tank at one time. I ...
