L005 or 007?

Post by Frisckey1 »

Or neither? I have inspected for the typical tooth but can't see one. I don't think he's an L007 - tho its been suggested - he was marked L005 at the store.

He's not as yellow as the pic makes him appear...that's the driftwood in my 125 gallon tank making it look more yellow than he was at the store...

here goes:

how is one to make the determination between different black/white spotted plecos? LOL

This looks like a Hypancistrus species but I am not sure It will be L-005, maybe L-201.

Hi!

Yeap looks pretty much like

It seems that the interopercula region is rather big suggesting that it carries usually more and longer odontodes...
Certainly a better pic would help us to see better...

Cheers

Hi!

Ive heard from several people now that the easiest is to look at the spot color in H.inspector as the males have yellow spots.
cheers

Well, everybody seems to agree! L201, then. After reviewing the pics, I'd have to agree based on physical appearances. I'll try to get a better pic, too.

Is it true that the 007 does not have transparent dorsal and caudal fins? Somebody told me that wa a sure-fire way of ruling out L007...just wondering how true or not that is?

The males have yellow spots? Hmmmm. My males don't. They have a slightly more robust coloration...and have some of the longest interopercular odontodes* of any Hypancistrus I've kept, but the spots are white. Yellow would be cool. I'd like to see that.

*Frisckey 1, that's what I thought I saw in the pic that made me think male.

Hi!

Frisckey 1: Leporacanthicus spp have a totally different head and body shape...

Regarding the fins stuff, I really don't think that is accurate enough to tell them apart, especially with young Leporacanthicus

L-201 hypancistrus inspector - that's my vote.

I have gotten them as various other L numbers and would guess that they must exsist in a large geographical area.
