Re: Lamontichthys llanero tank setup?
Hi Just an update on my fish. They are I am sure 4 Females 2 males. The alpha male is still cleaning an upright lump of bogwood every 25 to 30 days and he seems to have decided the side to clean is the one I can’t see. I have notice that if I feed during this "Cleaning ritual" he still carry’s on. I ...

there was an article published in Aquarium Fish Magazine in the late 90's (I think) that focused on a breeding group of Ageneiosus magoi. Shane, is this the article you are thinking of?

okay, you got me there. no 24k synos out there. How about "bronzish"? And what about multipunctata and grandiops? what would you consider their base color? to the OP, sorry for taking this off topic. And in my attempt to steer things back, I've been told from several different that grannies are ...

I think you and I have differing opinions in what "golden" is! Of the images in the Cat e log, I would contend that all the fish with the exception of Amiidae's are "golden" in color. That includes the pictures of your fish that you've posted on the web.

Re: Synodontis granulosa question
Two of my grannies came from Atlantis. (almost 2 years ago) I've seen them on their list a few times prior to this so I'm sure they'll bring more in when they are available. Just got to be patient and vigilant. They dont get imported very often and when they do, it is usually just a few here and ...

Yes, I thought about it. You mean trio ... 1 male and 2 females, but how large tank they need? About 40l? I use water from well as once. It is good water pH isn´t falling after 5 days and water doesn´t spoil. Many thanks all who helps me :-). It´s useful advices. Yes, one male, two females. This is ...

Re: Loricaria rio Atabapo ... breed
Try moving a trio into their own tank. Your large group might be discouraging breeding. I've found that my atabapos do not breed as often when there are a lot of fish in the tank. Also, soft water isn't needed with these fish. I've kept them in straight tap water for some years and they have no ...

they were much smaller than that. They may have reached 7 cm but my memory might be stretching that a bit. They were painfully slow growing.
I would share some pictures, but they are stuck on my broken computer.

Re: Pseudohemiodon apithanos breeding
I've had these fish for a about two and a half years now and they are entering their third spawning season. The longest I've been able to keep the fry alive was 6 months. They really are sensitive to water quality and overfeeding. I chronically get busy and neglect my husbandry duties and my young ...

a number of hobbyists have bred this fish in my area, the first happening 6 or 7 about years ago. I wasn't really paying attention to the conditions they had their fish in but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary from what you'd expect from corydoras.

Wow. I'm surprised I did not get this notice directly from Marineland... A month ago, one of my 250w stealth pro heaters exploded in my tank. Took pictures of the mess, sent it to Marineland and they replaced it with another. They actually sent me a replacement and a comparable visitherm. Never did ...

Hey nvcichlids, did you manage to pick any of these up? and how are your friends' fish doing? Was shocked to find these in my neck of the woods and picked up a group. I kept these fish in the past. I had three specimens in a 55 gallon tank (48" x 13" x 16") decorated with branchy driftwood, no gravel and a steady current in the tank. I fed the fish hikari algae wafers and frozen blood worms. They did well until winter came around and the temperature dropped into ...

You have smart sturisoma! mine dont do that. I even copied your technique exactly! studied your pictures and followed your detailed musings. Re: Breeding sturisoma
Thats pretty amazing that your fish spawned so soon. I dont think my fish started that early. As for age, its too bad I lost the wild adults prematurely, they would have been 12 years old by now which means we would that much closer to seeing if your estimation is correct. Totally off the subject ...

Pimelodus tetramerus
My LFS just got some of these in. I've always been a fan of smaller pimelodids, but they are seldomly imported here. So when these showed up I got pretty excited. Checking the Cat-e-log though, there really isn't anything on them. Anyone have experience with these fish?

Hey Richard, I did see your avatar. The new ones I have look like your pic, they weren't cheap either. Today I picked up two more grannies! The thing is that they are tiny, about 2.5 inches. They look right (nice black and white fins, and juvenile spots over the body) and the guy at the shop assured me that they were wild caught. Have any of you seen grannies come in that small? I left two at the ...

might want to contact the Honolulu Aquarium Society. http://www.honoluluaquariumsociety.org/
they could help you with your questions.
there are restrictions as to what can be kept in Hawaii, take a look at this:

I used to keep and breed multis a while back. I started off with a reverse trio, not because this was an ideal ratio, but because that was all that was available to me. the fish were small, about 2 inches and I kept them in a 55 gallon with a breeding group of albino Aulonocara. the tank had a ...

I'm not implying that he served them up as punching bags or anything, just wondering if their presence in the tank affected their behavior in any way. btw, I've successfully used a large shoal of cories as dither for shy loricariids On another note, I suspect one of them has gill flukes or some sort ...

Re: Are Jager heaters REALLY submersible???
I have some that are over 10 years old. they are very reliable and also run them fully submerged. I always thought that the line was for the maximum amount of the heater you could have OUT of the water. I cant be sure though, I never did read the instructions way back when.
