Re: Doras Carinatus
Nice! Congrats on a job well done!!! :d I knew you would get it done with how well you were presenting your information. This is a very important update for those wanting to keep this species. It was a real eye opener when you posted the information on just how large this species gets. I love to see ...

Re: Baby RTC, shedding slime etc but eating well.
Good to hear your problems with the rtc are over. As for the TSN I have seen some in the past that seemed to change colors based on water temp? Looks crazy but awesome. I had my large RTC x TSN hybrid a few years back lose part of his coloration, but came back after the winter.

Re: New member getting a vulture tomorrow
:) this is good info. Mine is doing quite well and have owned it for less than a month. Mine thus far has not been very active except to eat and then go back to his hiding spot. Becomes very active after lights out though. Gets picked on by other fish, but just totally ignores them. He will just ...

Re: filamentosum - capapretum
I have sent email to Dr. Lundberg who in conjunction with others was the one who split these species and reorderd Brachyplatystoma back in 2004. I am not sure if this site has access to those original docs or not. Dr. Lundberg is a very busy man as you can imagine leading the all catfish species ...

Re: Zungaro Zungaro aggression - experience?
The only other fish I have owned that was this territorial or aggressive was my hybrid rtc x tsn. he would bite the tails of any other catfish that you put in with him. He would not even tolerate being in the same tank as my rtc when the rtc was 26" and he was 36". He nearly ripped the tail right ...

Re: Zungaro Zungaro aggression - experience?
This is true. He would just chase and nip them after that. I didn't get to keep him for an extended period of time. I was hoping to have him huge, but you know how it goes. He just seemed to want his own spot. I think once acclimated he wanted to set up his territory. As for the channel obviously he ...

Re: Zungaro Zungaro aggression - experience?
Hi there everyone. I am checking out everything catty as I get back into the hobby and I saw a reference in here to the jaus I have kept. I would like to share my experience with both individuals I kept. The first one I kept I received at 11" as a donation. He was thin and near death. After a few ...

Re: P. pangasius vs. P. hypothalamus
Hmmm, this is odd. Why would they get two fish of the same species in under different names from the same distributor, and why would the distributor go through the trouble of seperating out all the ones that look similar. Seems like it would take a while for fish that only costs $7.00. I'm still not ...

Re: P. pangasius vs. P. hypothalamus
These guys are much harder to photograph than the IDs. much faster, but here's a few more pics. Most of the pics of them are really blury, but I went through to try and find a few decent ones. Note the lack of hump right in front of the dorsal fin. All the ones I've seen in the LFS are like that ...

Re: TSN needs your help please.
Just as a thought also, that TSN can be quit skittish at first as well until they are settled into their new home. If you keep up with your water change schedule(seems like it with those readings) and have a large enough home for him with an adequate food supply he should be fine. Salt treatments ...

Re: P. pangasius vs. P. hypothalamus
Hypothalamus is sold in the trade as both pangasius shark & irridescent shark & is the most commonly imported species. The bottom fish does look to have a blunt snout compared to the other fish but otherwise they seem quite similar & i think someone like Silurus needs to comment to give you a ...

Re: P. pangasius vs. P. hypothalamus
Oh, one thing to mention is that the P. hypothalamus has a hump above it's head on everyone I've seen in the stores, and the P. pangasius has just a smooth head. This is from a very small size, and I doubt that anyone is seperating out males and females to the degree that they are sold seperately in ...

Re: P. pangasius vs. P. hypothalamus
It's a pretty vague dimorphic description, and it says it's unknown what size it becomes evident. The ones I think are ID sharks have pretty much looked the same since they were small, and the others also. That's from about 1.5" til the ID shark's now 9", and 8". The pangs are 6", and 5". They all ...

Re: members currently keeping sorubim lima
I just finished reading this, and must say congrats on getting your fish to eat, and out of harm's way. I think now it's time to upgrade your tank larger(55 is still way too small) You're looking for a deeper footprint from front to back than a 55 gal. Otherwise you are basically giving it an ...

P. pangasius vs. P. hypothalamus
Hey guys. I bought two sets of Pangasius cats and was having a bit of a friendly debate on species with a friend who is a regular here. I decided to post up some pics and see what you guys had to say. From what I can gather from info on here and other sites I have two distinct sets of pangs. One ...

Re: Red Cat Tail Fish
Even large rocks can be swallowed when RTC get excited during feeding time. I have some bare spots in my tanks where I hand feed my catfish. It eliminates the possibility of them eating rocks on accident. Once had my hybrid eat 2 3" stones when feeding on shrimp. Took 3 months for him to regurgitate ...

I'd have to agree with what's already been said. I am the proud owner of a RTC x TSN hybrid that is currently 36". I feed him/her about once every 5 days. Also what you must realize is that as that fish grows longer it grows exponentially in weight. The heavier the fish is the more waste it will ...

just another note, my catfish never come to the top of the water unless i come in the room, and then it's for one of two things. a) they want food, or b) they wish for me to pet them. i would say that anthing over 2 ft deep would be fine. I know everyone in here will bash me and say it's too small ...

i keep stone cats in my smaller tanks they max at 7-9 inches. rare that they are bigger. I find slow moving spots in the river that are shallow in the middle of the night and fish on the bottom with a small hook and small piece of worm. Carefull they love to swallow the hook so you need super light ...

I personally think any well done enclosure with catfish is excellent, so long as the fish can prosper. My fish seem quite content where they are now, but I am still upgrading. I expect that the 8 1/2 ft. dia pond I am getting for them will do the job for some years to come. I put rocks and plants ...

Ok, sorry to bring an old post back to life, but i was digging threw some old archives trying to get a feel for the forums here, and I found this one alarming to some extent.
