thanks for the info. i don't think that's the correct speces only because these plecs have yellow spots, not white. or will that change at they grow? the pics on the profile seem to show them as having yellow spots when younger. also, any idea on the typicall growth rate of these guys? thanks again ...

bristlenose question

i have recently acquired 4 baby bristlenoses's. i'm not sure of the exact species, and i can't really get a good pic of them or i would post it for help. basically they have a black body with yellow spots and a yellow edging on their tail fin. i know, that doesn't help all that much. i need to get ...

not to state the obvious here, but if your nitrate levels are too high, you need to do one of three things: 1. get a larger filter 2. increase water changes 3. reduce the bioload if high nitrate are an issue, that generally means that you're overstocked and/or under filtered. increasing water ...

what are these?

i found this auction on aquabid, and i like the look of the corys, but i'm pretty sure they're not c. xinguensis as stated, unless they are one of the undescribed species. so, what are they in actuality? anyone know? the pic isn't that great either... http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction ...

well i gave in an picked it up this morning. i've decided to keep it in another tank until it's a little bigger, it's maybe 2" right now. i think that it would be lost in the 90 right now. this way also when it's time to move it into the larger tank, i can gradually increase the temp and allow it to ...

thanks, i was hoping to hear that :D i did have the discus at 83 at one point, and their appetite was noticeably decreased, and their behavior was very sluggish and they just kind of sat around. turns out that the breeder raised them in 88 degrees, so the lower temp was really effecting them. i ...

L264 - leporacanthicus joselimai, temperature question

i know that this species is listed as preferring water temp of 80 degrees (27C), but can it thrive in a higher temp? i found one of these in my lfs tonight, and i really want to get it for my 90 gallon, but i'm concerned about the temperature of the tank. my 90 is a discus tank, and is kept at 86 ...

corys for a discus tank

what species of corydoras would be best in a warm water tank? i'm looking to add some in, but in a tank with high temperature and relitively low o2 levels, i'm concerned about how many species will fare.

pH is 6.8, temp 85 degrees (about 29 C), 90 gallons heavily planted.

suggestions anyone?

Need some help fast with an L200....

okay so i got 2 L200's last wednesday. both got through shipping well and were acclimated to their holding tank. no fighting seen, in fact strangely enough these two were inseparable. i was having trouble getting them to eat, and i tried everything. shrimp pellets, cucumber, live blackworms, frozen ...

L200

I was thinking of adding 2 or 3 L200's to my 90 gallon planted discus tank. I had a L091 in there, but he suddenly and unexpectedly died last week. I'm still working on trying to figure out why. But anyway, back to the L200's. I only have one real cave in the tank, although there is a large piece of ...

if you're using distilled water, be sure to mix it with tap water. pure distilled water is very harmful to fish, and shouldn't be used on its own. i wouldn't think that it would work well for marine tanks either, but with the addition of the salt minerals are added, so they must do a decent job of ...

it's not true of ALL major chains, but the vast majority of them it is. most of the time the staff of the fish departments are not hobbiests, they have no idea how to take care of fish, and get all of 5 minutes of training when they start. they give the worst advice that i've ever heard to customers ...

your ammonia and nitrite levels should be completly non-existant, at 0 at all times. this could have been the reason for the cory deaths. i am very doubtful that any of the raph cats had anyhting to do with it. they are very peaceful, and good tankmates. mine doesn't bother a soul, and he gets ...

if rain water doesn't work, you might want to invest in a r/o unit. mix some r/o water in with water changes and it should lower things rather well. i have one tank that has a piece of driftwood that's leaching tannins. basically the same look that peat would give, and i love the look of it! it's ...

definetly put it in the establish tank. then add a little ammonia daily until your ammonia and nitrite readings are back to 0. there's no such thing as established water without an established filter. you can always run the filter for the new tank on an established tank for a while to get the ...

i am aware of their final size, and i am also aware of the fact that it is rare for a clown to reach over 6" in captivity, and when they do, it takes a very long time. they are only about 2" right now, and sometime in the future will be upgraded to a 125 or 150. the 12" size of clowns is a wild ...

it's not a bare tank that he's in. the tank has substrate, a cave for him to hide in, and now a small piece of driftwood. it's not that big of a tank, but it's okay until he goes into his new home, which won't be until i see him eat.

if you're concerned about a power outage, when the power does go out you can always pump out the water that's in the filter. at least on the fluval lines, there's a priming pump on the top of the filter. you can shut off the inlet side, and pump out the water. this is good for changing media and ...
