Re: PCF iPhone App
Mats,
I think the iphone app (if it exists) would have a more 'accessible' layout, rather than the original website layout on a browser, which doubtless has such extensive information, that isn't really practical "on the go", with all that link-clicking and zooming in and out. I think the main ...

Wouldn't it be great if there was a Planet Catfish iPhone App out there?

Re: tanks suited for catfish - any recommendations?
Shamrock,
the reason why many people go for shorter tanks (height wise) is because:
a) majority of catfish are benthic (bottom-dwelling), and unless there are midwater fish in the tank too, a tall tank isn't really necessary, and is just gonna be a waste of space and water.
b) having a larger ...

Re: Help!! Megalodoras Uranoscopus not EATING?
Hmm, is he off-colour too? any other weird behaviour/appearance? I may be wrong, but unlike smaller catfish like corys that require regular feedings, larger catfish eat a large meal and can live off that for several days. So maybe he's just in that "in-between-meals" period....?

Re: Blind Synodontis alberti
Well this certainly is unfortunate for your poor fish!! But nonetheless it definitely supports the theory of having long barbels being of definite use in murky/poor visibility waters. It's great to see that he's coping very well in his setup, and do you drop food along his "familiar pathway" in the ...

Oh oops sorry forgot to mention i'll just be getting S. multipunctatus. I'd personally prefer either lucipinnis or petricola, but being in Australia, we've got a limited variety of catfish. Hmmm a group of 6 sounds nice
Thanks Birger.

Re: new synodontis tank cycle
Well i've finally got the tank ready to go, and all it needs now is just fish!:)
was just wondering if its ok to have a mix of sizes in the same tank (my lfs has 1 that's around 10cm, and the rest are younger, each about 4-5cm long).
Also, how many would fit into a tank that's 3ft length x 2ft ...

yeah i bought one of those too! Was told by LFS that its a strain of bristlenose, kinda like the albino strains of bristlenose. Curious thing is, when I bought mine, it was around 2cm and was a bright orange. But as it grew older, it darkened and looks more like your specimen now. I'm thinking its a ...

Hey guys,
thank you so much for all the advice! :D I think i'll go with andy's idea of the half new/half established setup. One question though, will the bacteria colony in the established media be adversely affected if the water suddenly changes from soft/acidic to hard/alkaline?

Hi Andy,
yeah my largest filter I have is a canister filter. I was also thinking of exchanging some existing media (ie: ceramic noodles) from the canister into a new canister i've bought for the synos tank, and some of the new media will go into the old canister (if that made sense). However, by ...

hey guys,
so i've got a tank for a synodontis multipunctatus or petricola colony. It's gonna be my first time keeping any synodontis.
My problem is that i'm not really sure how to go about cycling the tank. In my previous experiences, I'd go to the aquarium and get some feeder goldfish to get the ...

Re: Megalechis thoracata husbandry
Correct me if i'm wrong (fellow members), but I think 18cm for this species would be very optimistic, and normal aquarium-kept specimens will only usually attain a length of 15cm.
M. thoracata are generally peaceful, except feeding times when they get boisterous, especially males that are in ...
