Pictures of some of my splendid fish.
Although admittedly the 1st Pic shows an Asian Species (S.Acricularis) & a SA ( P.Perruno but 90% L.Mammoratus)

Excuse me for saying, but the second one appears to be in possibly the scratchiest tank ever. Was it a frenzied attack with a razor blade?

No, no its fine bubbles from the filter outlet!
Although admitteldy that tank is very old and yes does have a fair few scatches!

I can say for 100% certain that your fish is not P. perruno - it's a of some sort. Perruno is not exported...

Thanks for the Clarification Mat,

Was pretty convinced that it was L.Longibarbis or L.Marmoratus.
Just no idea which

We don't have a picture of L. longibarbis, because at some point in the past, it was considered the same as L. marmoratus. So all pictures are under L. marmoratus [and that may well be correct - I think L. longibarbis is from a different region, and less likely to turn up in the trade, but I'm not so sure.

I am sure Mats is right but Rob, you still could count the dorsal rays. Yours looks just like my 3 L. marmoratus. I have had a fourth for several months, a 1.5' TL trade-in which was sold as Perruno cat and whose appearance distinctly differs - wish I could take a good photo to collect your opinions guys but he is in the basement pond - no glass, so the pic would be top or at least 50% top view and of not good quality - not enough light... lazy me have not counted the dorsal rays either yet...

Love your asian guy! Nice. What's the S. stand for? could not find him by "last name" Acricularis... did you spell it right??

Perruno comes from Lake Maracaibo region, and there is no export from there. You don't "accidentally" buy a perruno, for sure. _IF_ someone where to import them, there would be a lot of knowledge of it, and the pricetag would most likely reflext the rarity. This applies to ALL fish that come from the Lake Maracaibo region.

Must be pretty rare - little info in Cat-eLog, no size either, no adult pics. Rob, if you had the time and care, you could help them/us/all out... not sure how involved the process is... so do not take my outloud thinking seriously, not that you would or should anyway

Quick search tells me that it grows to either 40 or 130 cm, and could possibly weigh as much as 20 kg. I wonder which is more correct of those two? I would suspect the latter - the other two members of the genus are "big ones", with 150 and 180 cm lengths listed in the Cat-eLog.

Hi all.

Firstly apologies for the fish name spelling, a weak point of mine I'm afraid.

With regards to the S.Acicularis I'm hoping that it is 40cm as that's what all my original research lead me to believe before purchase however I'm starting to lean towards maybe the larger as Mats has stated due to the fact they are over 30cm already!

My assumption for these fish would be that they are very similar to S.Aor only smaller.
They are particulary aggressive & can no longer be kept together.
The larger of the two currently lives alone as he was too aggressive in the Pond - Wasn't expecting that
