Re: Unknown pl*co
Wasn't there a thread a while back illustrating a VERY similar fish as a young pterygoplichthys? There may have been-I havent been on in a while. A member from a local forum bought this fish as unknown and others thought it was gibbiceps. It is quite small 1.5" or so TL. Doesnt look like small ...

Thanks Silurus, I am into catfishes.....but more looking for an updated 21st century version of Sands' 'Catfishes of the World' series rather than a more technical breakdown. Thanks, GW PS-are you in the know about anything like that coming down the pipeline? VOl 2 of the German Wels series (coming ...

Without counting spines, etc is there a way to tell these two apart under 12". Any differences in young adult (24" or less) coloration? How is temperament towards other large non bottom dwellers. The Cat-eLog is a bit vague on these.

The tiles on the floor are 1' x1', so you can see the RTC is as big as I say it is. The dovii is around 20" and the red devil is closing in on 15". There was a managuense about the same size as the RD, but I just shipped him to a friend as the dovii and RTC finally got tired of it being in there. I ...

I do feed that RTC in the photo a frozen plate of krill once per week. It eats Hikari Gold pellets during the other days-theyre actually for the dovii and friends. Its always been fed that and its tail is brighter than most. The mucous coat shedding is not a good thing. Mine did it every once in a ...

Im only planning on keeping a couple pairs of frempongi and one pair of fasciatus...Im not sure the fasciatus will get there or not. There is a market for frempongi here as theyve never been available in teh 25 years Ive been in the hobby. There are a number of folks that have fasciatus all of a ...

Wow, I havent checked this post in a couple days... Lots of activity. To answer all of the questions, etc. (yes, I understand this is a catfish forum) The jewels are in 135g 6' tanks with heavy rockwork. There are 5 pairs of 3-4" frempongi and 7 3"+ fasciatus. Each have their own identical tanks ...

Thanks for the response. I wasnt going to try the banjo, just in case it probably wouldnt defend itself. They do leave the plecs alone, but plecs dont do anything with krill. Im going to try a raphael cat or amblydoras hancocki this weekend. There is a lot of rocks and caves, so Im not too worried ...

Yes and no... Not too many folks in the states have seen frempongi and fasciatus. To my knowledge, this is only the second time theyve been imported in the last 10 years or so. They are around in Europe though and this site has more worldwide exposure typically than predfish. I just figure Id give ...

Sid Guppy, I do not need to be lectured on whether or not catfish are cleaners or not. Im simply looking for a fish that will coexist with these fish (BTW, the five star general is H. elongatus, not frempongi or fasciatus). I love catfish and most of my large tanks have catfish and a pair of other ...

Other than plecos and synos (which didnt work), any ideas on keeping cats with 4"+ Hemi. frempongi and fasciatus. Each species has their own 135g with 7+ of each in them. They are very messy feeders(will only eat live and frozen currently) and pounded the synos I tried. Id like something that will ...

Steve, you wouldve gotten a bashing.... just like I always do. To make everyone happy....Ill start the sales process on my wife on turning my 20,000g pool in my back yard into a catfish pond. In my defense. As stated earlier above, I believe people around the world should have licenses to keep and care for the large pimelodids (and bagrids). Until this happens (hell freezes over), these fish will be imported. There will be folks who buy these fish and care for them incorrectly. There are ...

Well, actually the true definition of 'domesticate' is: "to tame (wild animals) and breed for human use." So housing and feeding is certainly part of the domestication process. In fact, a domesticated animal relies on humans for these items. But that is my point. Whats worse, keeping a dog in an ...

Here is a bad photo of my 400g. I got this fish when it was 6" long 4 years ago. The dimensions are 10'x30"x30" (the tile on the floor are 1'x1'). Im not sure how big his next house will be....there is always the 15,000 pool in the backyard....gotta get my wife bought in. http://img24.imageshack.us ...
