Hi, I have had these plecos for almost two weeks (I think it will be 2 weeks on Wednesday). As for if they have sunken bellies I am not sure but I think the fact that they are eating voluntarily would suggest that they are fine. I will try to get a picture of them the next time I find them. I'll ...

Google is your 2nd best friend right after the Cat-eLog. Google search returned this, http://www.tropicalresources.net/phpBB2 ... s_L201.php, that talks about them being carnivores and eating mostly insect larva , shrimp and worms and should be supplemented with dry food to ensure balance.

Good news. Not 100% positive by at least 98%. I think that both plecos are now eating. I am so excited. The reason I think this is that the one that normally eats is also the one that routinely tries to climb up the air hose for the airstone (and he is currently doing that). And I keep ...

Enough room to add more fish?
Hi, I have a 15 gallon tank (approximately 24"x12"x12"). I currently have 4 bloodfin tetras (about an inch long maybe a tiny bit more, not gonna grow to more than 2" each), and two Clown Plecos (1 P. Maccus, and 1 LDA68). I used to have 6 bloodfins (two had run-ins with the business end of the ...

I have just one more question. There is a lot of discussion on these forums about how all plecos absolutely adore Tetra Color Bits (is this true for the Panaques?), do they really like them more than the TetraMin Tropical Tablets made especially for bottom eaters? If anyone could shed some light on ...

Dukerider, I will definitely try and find some of that Kent Garlic Xtreme from a LFS this weekend. Hopefully that will do the trick. As for my driftwood, it should be ready to be put back in the tank tonight. I had never thought about using bananas, would I just slice them into 1/2 pieces and let it ...

How to make food more appealing...
Hey, I have been trying to get my "Clown Plecos" (1 P. Maccus and 1 LDA68) to eat for the past week. THey have outright refused Hikari Algae Wafers and have only gotten them to eat zucchini in 1 out of 5 tries. What can I use to make them eat more (or anything). One of my biggest problems is that I ...

I am quite surprised at what is now happening. Last night I added some zucchini and to my amazement there were tiny little bite marks on it when I took it out. I am going to microwave it a little tonight before I put it in so that it is softer and make he will eat more. The suprising thing is that I ...

I am all for using ads on website to gain revenue to offset the costs of hosting, except when I have to view them. Only for PlantCatfish will I stare at that unsightly gray box. Hi, I have very much enjoyed this site as a great reference tool and plain entertainment as I have read through thousands of posts. I have noticed however that in firefox the area in which one could do a forum search, register, login, etc. is covered up with the main site navigation menu. I am not ...

I dechlorinate the whole load in a separate rinse cycle. I'm one lazy aquarist. Thats not so much as being lazy as it is being resourceful  I haven't made a definite decision about what type of filtration I am going to get, as my new tank is probably not going to happen until the summer ...

Thats exactly what I am planning on having happen. I think when it is time, I will buy a Emperor 400 Power Filter so that way I will always have two things of filter media running so that I wont ever have to risk having an accidental cycle when replacing the media. And I will take the media from my ...

The fish tank gods from above have decided to reward me for my pseudo patience. For the past week or more my ammonia levels have been at least 4.0ppm or higher with each of my bi-daily tests. Today however my test came up with a mere .25ppm of Ammonia/Ammonium. Although this is not 0/ideal it is a ...

Garrrhhh posting in this thread is becoming addicting to me... but it is giving me a way to feel that I am "helping" my fish by becoming more educated, ok enough of that. I just wanted to update that after a long 24 hours, my LDA68 is now sucking onto the side of the glass between the two suction ...

Larry, I understand how beneficial using substrate from an established aquarium can be. However, a few hours ago (just my luck) the other aquarium that I have has had an outbreak of ICK in which 1/4 of all the fish are covered in white spots. To me having high ammonia levels is a lot better than ...
