Re: Sold as Petricola?
I was sidetracked with a bunch of other fish chores, including attending the American Cichlid Association convention July 22-23 but I do plan to try some photos of the axillary pore.

No clearer photos already taken on the humerals. I will have to net and photo more precisely. I'll try tomorrow, thanks for looking!

Re: Sold as Petricola?
Oh males of course since the one I have already is a male, LOL. You think #6 is a male? I thought it was a female. They all have a bright white edge in person, not a trick of the flash. Not even dull white like the maybe-polli I posted earlier. Later this pm I will sift through my other photos of 2 ...

Re: Sold as Petricola?
They do all have the white leading edge to the dorsal. Hybrids do you think? Or does the small size help ID them as lucipinnis?
These were bought at a catfish convention before Synodontis lucipinnis was established as a separate species.

Re: Sold as Petricola?
Yes, 13 individuals and the sizes are on pic properties. Also genders determined according to my best, inexperienced guess. In case that's a pain, here is the rundown: 01 Female 2.5" 02 Male 3.5" 03 Female 2.5" 04 Female 3.0" 05 Male 3.0" 06 Female 3.5" 07 Male 3.5" 08 Male 3.0" 09 Female 2.5" 10 ...

Re: WTB Synodontis petricola
I have checked out the Aquabid posts for the last couple of weeks. One seller that had a petricola pic admitted that it was not a pic of his fish...that his were even better looking with spots further apart, etc. He changed the pic and now they look like lucipinnis to me. The other sellers pics ...

I own one adult male and would like to build a group. Juveniles OK. Shipping available to NJ. Would need a pic to verify petricola ID on PlanetCatfish.

Or I could just take it back as a mis-labeled fish and get a refund. Decisions, decisions.

Re: Synodontis ID, Petricola?
I'm trying to figure out if I should complain to the LFS for charging me the same for a mis-labeled polli or if the value of a polli is higher.
Then I will still be searching for more petricola and more polli apparently, LOL.

Re: Synodontis ID, Petricola?
Regarding the polli, my fish does have the dull white leading edge to the dorsal described for polli though you can't see it in the pic. And it does have a very wide head. Seems to fit. I looked through all the pics on polli including cf1 and cf2. In person my fish looks most like this. http://www ...

These were both labeled Synodontis Petricola Burundi. They don't look alike and they don't look like my fish. Are they petricola?

Petricola (not Lucipinnis): Ideal Gender Ratio?
I have one male and have a chance to get 2m:1f. I will plan to add a bunch of unsexed juveniles to my group, but they take a long time to mature. Would you just buy the female and the unsexed juveniles? Or will the 3m:1f and a bunch of babies get along OK? My former group spawned regularly in my 75G ...

You can keep it from happening again by adding a heater guard or even better, using an inline heater.

Re: Synodontis Lucipinnis aquarium decoration + set up
Given lots of choices for hiding places, my synodontis seem to prefer shallow caves. For example a terra cotta saucer with a slate tile not quite covering the top.

Re: petricola
what are the guidelines to keeping synodontis as far as tank space. theyre bottom dwellers so a 20 high doesnt make much of a difference but i dont want them to be crowded. im goin to put some small mbuna fry in with them so bioload wont be a factor as far as tank mates go. im goin to put (try to ...

Re: S. Multipunctatus Tank Setup
In my limited experience with breeding synos, they need to be pretty mature to spawn. My lucipinnis just started spawning regularly at 5-6 years old and my wildcaught multipunctatus group had two previous owners (over 7 years) with no spawns...it took another year with me before they spawned. I have ...
