Need help! Not sure where to post.

Post by theviper06 »

Hello all who read. I am needing some help with a problem I noticed with my synodontis eupterus this morning.
I recently upgraded to a 55gal tank and my eupterus loves being vertical on the back of the tank next to my filter hose. This morning I noticed a place on his side that looks some what like a scar. Is it possible he is also getting up close to my heater as well and got burnt? If so, what can I do ti help him get better and it not happen again?

Thanks

What is your decorations in the tank? Do you have a cave that is suitable for your Syno? They like a cave/tunnel that they can be completely hidden inside.

It is quite possible that in an effort to hide, it got in contact with the heater - that's been known to happen to fish, inparticular where the fish is kept in a tank with insufficient hiding places.

Welcome theviper06!

A pic would really help. Fresh heater burns look nothing like scars, scratches or other skin abrasions. They are big, wide, oval/roundish in shape and deep. Mats is right but I must add that my three big euptera rarely hide all day long. But then, the tankmates matter. Etc. Perhaps, the more info and pics you provide, the more you will help experts (of which I am not) help you. Tank size. Tankmates. Furniture. Heater type and location and what's around it. Fish size. Relevant stuff like that.

You can keep it from happening again by adding a heater guard or even better, using an inline heater.

Thanks to everyone who replyed to my post, my synodontis healed just fine and you cant even tell it happened.

I moved my heater and put it lower in the tank to make sure he doesn't do it again
