Re: Tank age and leaks
78 years but it's an outlier! I find it's more about how often they are moved or drained and filled. I think you are right. The only ones I have had leak are ones which have been moved lots. My 125 gallon (6'x18" footprint) is now on it's 19th year in this house and the silicone is visibly ...

Re: Long vacation, Fish Survival
19 days is a very short time. I would not feed them at all since you are not doing water changes. If anything, just lower the water temperatures a bit and leave them be. Less food, less waste produced. In 2019 I had a work contract which required that I be out of the country for 3 weeks at a time ...

I stopped using leaf litter for this reason. It was just clogging up my canister filter. Maybe there is some way of avoiding this but I couldn't manage to figure it out.

Re: Issues with white spot cardinals
I used to have discus and kept them at 31 C, but now I have only 3 tanks. One planted and unheated. 125 gallon with mostly big Pseudacanthicus, and a 100 gallon with Scobiancistrus and tetras (cardinals, black neons and glowlights).

Re: Issues with white spot cardinals
I normally raise mine up to 30 C for the week of treatment and I never see the ich again. You might want to try a slightly higher temp than 28. The standard temp I have on my tanks are around 27 - 28 C though, so YMMV.

Re: Issues with white spot cardinals
What is the tank temperature at? I have found that I always have to elevate the tank temperate to get the ich to speed up their life cycle to treat so that I don't have a persistent case. Some of the parasite might be dormant in some of your more resistant fish (not the Cardinals) in the tank.

Perhaps you can sell some merchandise on youtube like other people. Also start a membership online so people can help you carry a load. A lot of sites have that. $20 a year gets you extra videos that other public people cannot see, that kind of thing. Just throwing ideas out there. It takes time to ...

Re: How low is too low for KH
I agree with Darrel. Pics and more details of filtration, etc would be helpful. Are you using KH boosting media in your filter? Where I live on the southwest coast of Canada, our municipal water is basically rainfall and snow melt with a TDS of < 30 normally. In a 24 cycle, my planted tanks swing ...

Is this going to be an in-floor heater? If so, how have you insulated the floor from heat losses to ground, which is probably at year round 55 F a few feet below grade in Michigan? It appears he has already insulated above the concrete before running the heating lines in that pic. And yes that is a ...

I don't know about over in India, but in Canada, the bulk food of choice would be salmon or trout feed. Cat food has taurine and all kinds of additives specifically for cats.

F1 Panaque suttoni (or suttonorum)
I just downloaded the most recent fish list from Spencer Jack's and they listed F1 P. suttoni (Blue eye pleco) as fish coming soon. So people are breeding these now? I assume in Asia? Anyone seen any? I am curious how it was accomplished.

If you use a water conditioner like Seachem Prime it will not only dechlorinate the water but will bind the metals so that the water is safe and then you can change as much water as you like.

Maybe you can just use plumber's putty and paint it black. I am with Bas. I find fish are able to get into the smallest gaps and get stuck when you are not looking.

I think it will look great. I have 2 AquaRay and 3 Panarama LED modules on my 125 gallon sequenced differently. I set one module up in the middle to be the only light on at 10 - 11 PM and the effect on the tank is amazing. It's the favourite lighting scheme in that tank for me. Unfortunately, I grow ...

100% with Shane. I had G. steindachneri in my 125 gallon with some Panaque (fairly big) and Pseudacanthicus (and other plecos, such as L129) and when they were in there but plecos didn't get enough food. Once I sold them my plecos became bolder, and I started getting fry out of the L129.

It'll only raise the TDS if it is soluble. If it is not dissolved in the water, then it's not part of the Total Dissolved Solids.

That isn't true, it's variable. The Amazon basin is a rather large area and you don't find any of the Dekeyseria spp. that we're talking about in the Amazon main channel. Also, the OP may, or may not, have naturally soft water. In terms of keeping these species, it depends on which one you're ...

This is a very informative discussion. So you guys basically steep it and pour the tea into the tank? Can you put it in a media bag and put it in your canister filter/sump/behind an HMF? Would it have the same effect or would it be too weak? I use Catappa and as mentioned elsewhere it makes a big ...

Why not remove the rummy nose and use ammonia to do a fishless cycle and jump start it with media from another tank? Then you can get it kickstarted and don't have to worry about livestock.

Yes I use a powerhead and a second airstone even in my fry tanks to get the oxygenation going in the tank. Would have to try this in a 40 gallon. Thanks for the details.
