not much. behavior will be the same. Biggest difference is where they are collected from.

it's definitely not an L-183. I don't even think it's an ancistrus. Your photo is not focused, so I cannot tell, but does it have a bristlenose?

as far as rocks are concerned, I would go with smooth, rounded "river rocks" as found in home depot.

Do a search on river tanks. Whitepine had a pretty cool set up, as did Shane.

At the very least, your larger plecs will bully the little ones out of caves, or make them wait their turn come feeding time.

One other thing you have to think about is your filtration. 9 plecs=a lot of poop.

I have a built in RO system in my home so water hardness is not a factor.
When you say black water, what exactly does that mean? When I think of black water I think of still waters with a lot of driftwood and leaf clutter. Is that correct?

L-182 or longfin bn? I am leaning towards the L-182, because i like the spotted look, but ultimately, I want an ancistrus to clean my tank.

I appreciate the input from both of you. I have had my L200 for over a year, and am attached to it, as are my kids. This tank will be for him. However, I was thinking of adding L199's as I would like to have variety, but no extra tanks for new fish. Tetras are definitely going in there as well.

You are probably right about the plant eating. His last tank was a cichlid tank, and he had his food stolen oftentimes.
