Ik keep my group of 6 L260's at about 85F with the PH @ 6.5 Kh @ 2~3 and low conductivity but I havn't seen any spawning yet, I just moved them from a 80x40x40cm tank to my 121x55x60cm last weekend. They look a lot happier and scout the sandgrounds a lot more during the day then in the old tank...

I used to have them in my smallest tank (60l) but for some reason the water went bad and most of the fish died, except for the Nannostomus.. so I moved them to my L260 tank where I did not have any fish in the upper layer.. so with the merging of the tanks they moved along. They form a happy school ...

Eheim has a "Surface suction extractor" partnr 3535

Image

I use it once every 2 weeks, I drop the thing in on a spare filter to clean the surface. Be careful with strong filters like the 2326 I have, its sucks too hard.

Otocinclus macrospilus sick?

I've got 3 Otocinclus macrospilus in my 15g tank, all are very alive and eating well (cucumber, zuchinni and algea(wafers)). But one has something stange, most part of the bottom of the head is tinted bloodred, it even shows thru his normal color when you look from above..

I just got them today, someone picked them up or me in a distant FS. They were almost white when I first saw them but when I let them get used to the water in my tank the color came back bit by bit, and within an hour in the tank the color was like on the pics. I noticed that they were a bit skinny ...

A fish who is build to live in acidic water can't live in alkaline water, the main reason why the fish doesn't like it is that it's skin not build for alkaline water.. it will get (maybe non-visible) skin problems.

I have 6 L260s in a similar tank, if you supply enough hiding places around the tank they will be fine :)

One advice, get a good filter with double to triple the capacity to get good flow.. I have an eheim 2224 on the tank.

My other inhabitants: mikrogeophagus altispinosa and otocinclus zebra.

A teaspoon should be fine.. if the metal would dissolve into the water we'd all have metal poisonings from stirring our coffee.. AFAIK.
