Hi,
First you have to consider type specimens. Here is the holotype: http://acsi.acnatsci.org/base/getthumbn ... get=133570. As you can see, your specimen does not match at all (look at details in fins and snout margin...).

Hi,
No, you will just need to fix the lectotype and paralectotypes from these syntypes . Then you can redescribe and fix type locality.

Hi,
Hard to tell from these pictures. A ventral view would help. Looks like a Rineloricaria to me. Something close to R. morrowi. Any idea about the origin?

Hi,
Indeed Sonia examined the species, but concluded it is neither A. cirrhosus nor a close relative. Racoll also demonstrated this from the maternal lineage, and no you do not need any male in a genetic sampling to demontrate introgressive hybridization.

Re: Identity of the common bristlenose catfish
Hi Mark, You are right, the only sequences of Ancistrus cirrhosus deposited in GenBank are mine, and they are not COI. The only public sequence is the one of A. brevipinnis (also present in the BOLD database as it should be the case for all other sequences). This is rather strange since it is ...

Re: Identity of the common bristlenose catfish
Hi, What is writen above is not exactly correct. Fish-BOL is not sensu stricto a database, it is a barcoding project. Sequence in the BOLD database are also deposited in GenBank, since you have to submit them directly to the GenBank database (using Bankit for barecodes, see at NCBI). This is ...

Héhé! Who had doubts about this? The identity of the common Ancistrus as A. cf. cirrhosus is just another urban legend! But try to say the contrary, and nobody will trust you, even when you are one of the leading specialist of the group... or when you provide evidences as you just did it. Great idea, ...

Hi, Exact. Moreover, if you look at the tree we published with Monica and Hernan when we described Fonchiiloricaria nanodon in 2011, you can see that we labelled all species (only 3 for this publication, the topic was not Rineloricaria ) as Rineloricaria including R. lanceolata , R. platyura (both ...

Hi, No, Rineloricaria is not correct. No, Rineloricaria is valid. Moreover, I consider Hemiloricaria a junior synonym of Rineloricaria (and all other related genera Fonchiiichthys and Leliella ). I already wrote this in 2007. Rineloricaria is the correct name of the taxon. L10a is just a breeding ...

Hi, This is a Pseudacanthicus from Corantijn River in Suriname collected during the 2010 CI RAP. We need to check more in depth for an ID. Hi, This is normal. The first specimen on the catelog is a small one if one considers the size of the head. The second one taken by Tiago is a breeding male. Re: New Loricariinae genus from Peru
Hi, I agree with Norman, Fonchiiloricaria nanodon is definitely a distinct genus and species from Peru. It more or less reaches the size of a Spatuloricaria . What aquarists call Loricariinae sp.1 or LG6 (if the number is correct) just represents fanciful names for Rineloricaria parva (I already ...
