Definitely Peckoltia, and my best guess would be .

Hi,

better call it Peckoltia cf. vittata / L 15, because the true identity of this species is not clear yet.

Hi Daniel,

Not aware of the background to this. Perhaps as the description is in German you know more. Care to share?

Cheers,

Possibly female, but is too small to tell for sure. Should be easy to tell when it's grown another inch.

I have a female that's about 5 inches with the caudal fin, TL. They grow rather quickly compared to a lot of other species though. She was less than 3 inches when I got her as a wild import in March.

Hi Jools,

as far as I know there is no holotype existing anymore of P. vittata. The 5 left syntypes seem to belong to different species from different locations, so we can´t be sure about the ID. But L 15 looks like the original drawing of Chaetostomus vittatus, so it could be this one, that why I said better use the cf.

Hi,

If you have syntypes, then there is no holotype...

Interesting. I guess someone will just have to re-describe it and deposit a new holotype...

Hi,

No, you will just need to fix the lectotype and paralectotypes from these syntypes ;-). Then you can redescribe and fix type locality.
