Re: Fins down to nubs! Permanent?
Thanks for the responses. The L134s eat well...they get the following in their diet: live blackworms, frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp, Repashy Spawn and Grow, Sera O-nip, Sera Catfish Chips, Hikari Carnivore, Hikari Discus, New Life Spectrum, Gammarus, chopped clams, and Fluval Bug Bites. I ...

Re: Fins down to nubs! Permanent?
Don't know what exactly happened but the poor living environment was the cause I'm guessing. I have some L201s that I neglected for quite a while that have the same results. To this day, a few years later, they still look the same and still breed. Hmmm...thanks for the response and I'm glad to hear ...

Re: A L134 female has been trapped by a male for two weeks. No eggs
Any updates? I have a couple of male zebras that take turns breeding with various females and my alpha male gets the deed done quick and kicks them out within a day. The beta male, on the other hand, always takes 10 days or more. He seems to be the more romantic one and takes his sweet time. He also ...

Re: Gold Nugget
Thanks for the tips! I've had minor success with gold nuggets in the past but they usually go downhill at some point. Whereas I currently have no issues with zebras, leopard frogs, queen arabesque, etc. I think I'll stick with hypans! Your fish is beautiful...gold nuggets are one of my favorites ...

Btw will test with som melons after the cure. I was old that after I’m son curing I should throw in som blueberry yogurt that is almost frozen, just so it sticks on the spoon, and if they are good to go they will throw them selves at it. Got that tips form a well known pleco lover back here in N ...

The hard part is figuring out how to get them past acclimation. Some just refuse to eat, even after being dewormed and treated like royalty. Any tips?

Fins down to nubs! Permanent?
I had several months of breeding from my L134 recently and during that time, I didn't want to disturb them so aside from topping off, I didn't gravel vac, wipe down the walls of the tank, or do any major water changes. I could tell there was a whitish/brownish film on the bare bottom and walls of ...

Very cool, it's nice to see them again!! Haven't seen those in over 15 years. Used to own them in the past and they were always a lot of fun and very active. Also love their colors.

Re: Buying plecos at smaller sizes (1")?
Given that you are new to plecos, my advice to you is to stay away from L46 given their price. Any of the other 3 should be fine but my preference is L134s or L333s as some 260s don't stay nice when they grow into adulthood. I know the L134 seller and its good stock and you cannot go wrong at that ...

Re: Some spawns and fry
Many breeders believe that the spawning hormones that get released into tank water, because they are contained in a small volume, act to stimulate other fish to spawn. Using water from a tank with ongoing spawning to trigger fish in another tank is a trick I have heard used by angel and cory ...

Re: Light colored spots on Bushy Nose Pleco
I've heard of plecos changing gold then back...don't understand the science but it apparently happens with various species of plecos. Chubby plecos do this quite often and the gold version sells for a lot...which I still can't understand since they are known to turn brown again.

Will keep fingers crossed ...

They certainly look to have a lot of potential and are gorgeous. Can't wait to see how they look after putting on some size and coloring up. As a side note, do you think it possible that L250 was actually a species that may have disappeared due to habitat destruction, thus only few were ever found ...

Congrats!! :-BD Wow...it seems like fish rooms all over are exploding with activity. Maybe winter is the new spring? It's intriguing that you were able to trigger a spawning with a hard water change as opposed to what most folks do with soft water and low tds. Seems we will never figure these fish ...

Re: Love is in the air, err water.
I have never experienced fish rejecting food for any amount of time. In fact my fish seem to eat like pigs no matter what I feed. Most of my fish took to Repashy right away, even those I did not intend to feed. I was surprised to see rummy nose tetras attacking the slabs put in for the plecos. I ...

Congrats on the breeding success. Sadly, I've not experienced breeding from my zebras or queen arabesque. Definitely old enough and have a ratio of sexes but nothing yet. Anyhow, I feed a wide variety of prepared dry and frozen foods which are all accepted with relish. Have added Repashy Spawn and ...
