Re: What is the story behind the albino gold lazer corys seen lately?
Bumping up again. Seems odd that a fish with this kind of color has so little distribution or conversation around it.

What is the story behind the albino gold lazer corys seen lately?
Been seeing these showing up on my FB page recently. Color is otherworldly and looks transgenic. Anyone know the history behind this fish? https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video;_ylt=AwrE1xn_IplivtcAt2BXNyoA;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMyNDI4MlVTLVRfMQRzZWMDcGl2cw--?p=albino%20gold%20laser ...

Re: Mini ranger pleco?
Years ago, Pterygoplichthys weberi were being imported into the U.S. as very attractive small juveniles for a short time. I still have a half dozen of them that maxed out at about 8" SL. I will say that they look similar, but not the same as the fish in your photo.

Re: Hatching and raising Hoplo fry
Just a pair. Moved them from one tank to another with a cool water change. Used a yogurt container lid as a cover and the male built the bubblenest underneath. Female laid a ton of eggs in the nest but also had eggs all over the tank as well. Even some on the male's fins. They are both about 4" SL ...

Hatching and raising Hoplo fry
Finally got a good spawn from my spotted Hoplo cats (Megalechis thoracata) and I need some info on hatching and raising the fry. 1. How long from spawn until eggs hatch? 2. When should I start feeding? 3. What are good first foods? I have microworms, live bbs, and powder fry food available. Are they ...

Re: What is a Golden Zebra Plecostomus?
Can't say I have ever heard the term "Golden Zebra Pleco" before. But "Columbian Zebra" is a trade name for Hypancistrus debilittera which the fish in the picture appears to be.

Re: Brazil rides again- and we all suffer....
You are absolutely right about the CO2. The fires are releasing decades worth of sequestered CO2 in a matter of days. The result will increase our greenhouse gas level and continue to warm the planet. The oceans will acidify affecting coral growth which in turn will reduce productivity of the ...

Re: Brazil rides again- and we all suffer....
The Amazon does not produce 20% of the world's oxygen. Only a tiny percentage because so much of what is produced is used up in photorespiration and animal and microbe respiration. The rainforest does adsorb a tremendous amount of CO2 which is stored in the massive tree and plant growth. Eventually ...

Re: "New Ranger" or "Mini Ranger" plecos?
If they are P. weberi, I have been keeping a group of them for several years now. It seems that juveniles get imported sporadically. A large number of them show up on import lists and then they disappear for a while. I think this is likely due to how they are collected. My guess is that at a certain ...

Re: Possible Reticulatus Cory?
I am thinking it's because of the yellow spine on the pectoral fins. A trait of sterbai and it's relatives (gossei, haraldschultzi,etc..) but not reticulatus or trilineatus.

Re: Possible Reticulatus Cory?
Based on it's size and the fact that it was purchased in a US store, this is probably a Corydoras trilineatus with an aberrant pattern. Not all that unusual.

Re: Trachelyichthys Exilis Compatibility.
Be wary of keeping plecos with T. exilis. I lost my T. exilis when they went into caves first and the pleco came in behind them. The Pleco (small Hypancistrus) literally ate their skin off.

So it could be a smaller number of sample individuals and the paper is summarizing the results of 3 different individual experiments. Same set of samples. Just tested three times looking at different variables. IME tests like ...

Re: Fish food. All I need is a supply of chicken waste...
I know at least one production facility is using inedible food as the feed for the flies. They basically take spoiled and expired food from grocery stores and feed it to the fly larvae.
Apparently it's a very low cost feed source and readily available in some areas.

Re: Fish food. All I need is a supply of chicken waste...
Insect meals are becoming increasingly popular in fish foods. Several brands are already marketing black soldier fly larvae formulas or researching it now that it is AAFCO approved. It does have some issues though. The Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio is not the same as fish meal. It is also low in ...

Re: The early catfish catches the worm: predation of Corydoras aeneus (Siluriformes, Callichthyidae) on freshwater nemat
I would have to think the wet weight of the food plays a factor. What percentage body weight of a nematode is water? If it's something like 80% then we are talking only 47.6 mg dry weight.
But I have no idea what a nematodes moisture content is.

When it rains it pours.
Went in yesterday morning with the flashlight and found a dozen more fry that were slightly smaller than the first group. Must have had a second male sitting on eggs in the tank somewhere.

Pulled out 14 babies (probably a couple more hiding in the tank) and put them in the net breeder. Saw them munching on some Repashy this morning.

Thanks. I do have some breeder boxes and nets available. I think I may do the net box. Nothing will bother them and it will give the best waterflow.

Pull them out or leave them in?
In what seems like forever, I finally had my first uncommon pleco spawn. Was feeding fish last night and found a bunch of L333 babies in the tank. The tank is a 30 breeder with just the L333 and some Corydoras semiaquilis in the tank. There is a decent amount of caves and driftwood in the tank for ...

Well it is certainly good news for those who love those fish. But I wouldn't be so quick to chastise those who believed in the ban happening. It wasn't revealed that the ban on these species would not be enforced until April 27th. 3 days before the collection ban was to go into effect. Nothing like ...
