Re: Argentina juvenile catfish
this is one of my adult Parapimelodus. The body-shape chances as they grow. Sadly I do not have any pictures from the juvenile period, but I`ve got them in a size similar to the one Steve caught. Now they are around 14 (males?) - 18 (females?) centimeters.

Re: Argentina juvenile catfish
Hello Steve,
I think you caught a juvenile Parapimelodus valenciennes. They are supposed to be very common in the lower Rio de La Plata. The adipose fin looks unusual, maybe it is missing a piece...

Re: Hypostomus from Rio Iguaçu
Since I can not see a change of body or headshape between fishes of 14, 18 or 21 cm nor by pictures of adult specimens in a magazine, I would be very surprised if the snout becomes longer when they get older. I agree, that the fish is not a albopunctatus, if the pictures here at planetcatfish for ...

Re: Hypostomus from Rio Iguaçu
Hello,
I do not think this species is a H. myersi, the body is to elongated compared to the width of snout and head. My guess would be H. albopunctatus. Very nice fish by the way!

Re: Hypostomus from Rio Iguaçu
Hello, I have two Hypostomus myersi imported from Argentina. Ingo Seidel identified them as H. myersi. They look a little different compared to the pictures you posted, as far as I can tell by the view of the pictures. My fish have a wider (and flatter) head compared to the length of the body; the ...

Re: building a "big" Potamotrygon/SA Catfishes tank
Hello, sadly there are no imports from Argentina or Uruguay to Europe anymore, so the chances of getting P. albicans are very small. Since it is a subtropical species, it would not be well placed in your great tank anyway. I would also recommend P. ornatus, a species that will grow way beyond 30 cm ...

Hi David,
OF Aquaristik is a great place for catfish-lovers and the owner is a really nice guy, but it is not a LFS! No regular opening hours where you just can drop in. You need an appointment, since on some days he is at the airport or other places to pick up some new fishes!
