Either the young of the Pimelodus you caught, or some kind of . Difficult to tell at that size.

Steve - how long are the barbels as i cant see clearly from the photo?

The adipose looks to have a concave edge but may change as the fish matures, not sure this would be a good identification point but seems unusual?
Lou: Every young man's fantasy is to have a three-way.
Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!

Hello Steve,

I think you caught a juvenile Parapimelodus valenciennes. They are supposed to be very common in the lower Rio de La Plata. The adipose fin looks unusual, maybe it is missing a piece...

Dark barbels and large eyes would tend to point to although I've never seen that genus in life.

Parapimelodus.JPG
Hello,

this is one of my adult Parapimelodus. The body-shape chances as they grow. Sadly I do not have any pictures from the juvenile period, but I`ve got them in a size similar to the one Steve caught. Now they are around 14 (males?) - 18 (females?) centimeters.
