[Silurus]

This 5cm specimen was caught in a shallow pool on the side of a 2m wide stream. I don't know the species - suggestions welcome!


This 14cm speciemen may be the same species or not. It was caught in a local fisherman's net in a deep (>2m) section of the main river

I believe these are B. balunga.

...and I believe the head shape of these indicate B. unimaculata instead of B. ocellata.

I'm doubtful because I can only see one pair of barbels (and I have browsed though a lot of my photos)

On to the Balitoridae... Great little fish to observe and photograph in their natural habitat.

This is actually as benign as it gets because it had been exceptionally dry. After rain, the river rises by several meters and turns into a raging brown torrent within a few hours.

Impressive. I was just noticing how in you video the fishes' tails were curling in the current. Thanks for the info.
