Re: L114 spawned fist time
Nice job! They are not the easiest to work with.
This info is based on my L600 and L160 spawns which are similar to L114s but there are differences.
The eggs will take about 8 days to hatch. It takes about 6 days after that before they are free swimming.
I usually collect the fry 2-3 days after they hatch because the male has trouble keeping all of them in the cave.
Let the male take care of them as long as possible. Moving the fry to floating fry trays works the best until they are free swimming. Keep the airstones VERY low. Too much water flow will damage the fry. Make sure to add gravel to the trays to keep the bacteria under control. For first meals I use baby brine and Cyclop-eeze. I then make the transition to Spectrum Thera A.
Feel free to send a PM for more information. Christoffer has been successful with L114s.
Regards,
Jim

Re: L114 spawned fist time
Finally, in 8-9 day they hatched.
At the moment all looks OK.
Male takes care of them.
As PseudaSmart said, lets male looks for them long as possible.
Then I try put them in groving tank.
PS! My L46 spawned yesterday in another aquarium!

Congratulation.
That is great if the male can hold the eggs until they hatched. What about the survival rate? are all hatched?

Re: L114 spawned fist time
Seems to me hatching precent is near to 100%.
In day 7 I separate fry to 70l growing tank, which have 100% same water.
Today in day 12 yolk sack is almost exhausted and survival rate is still near 100% (I never seen any dead fry).

Thank you for the pictures and updates on the development. These threads make it much easier to gauge progress as we work with less commonly spawned species! This is great!

Re: L114 spawned fist time
Hi,
Saw this thread when you first announced the success.
How are things now???
Can you tell me about the cave please? How large? Positioning of it in the tank? Closed at one end?
And what else is in the tank? Or is this purely a breeding type tank for a pair of these plecos?
I have 2 L114 growing well in a Geophagus community and will be moving them all to a 6.5ft tank fairly soon. I'm looking forward to seeing what sex these fish are? Now they are at 6-7 inches. But I never get a good enough look to sex them.
Cheers
Gavin

Re: L114 spawned fist time
Everything looks good so far.
At the moment they are about 18-20mm.
Spawning occurred in community welse tank (L333-5;L411-3; L002-5)
Tank is about 250l, with heavy filtration and current with lot of caves diffrent sizes.
Spawnig cave is self made of slate, one end openened (200x70x50mm) and positioned in one end of tank under slate and bogwood.
It takes about month when they start courtship. Before that by nights take place several fightings with rival male.
They try 2-3 times in slate cave before finally laid eggs.
In weekend I try take fresh pictures.

Nice! how many fry? Be careful not to provide small caves or pieces of wood. They will all pile in and ones on the bottom ones will suffocate.

Re: L114 spawned fist time
Linus, thank you VERY much for the question! I must have gotten distracted while typing.
I wanted to say: do not provide pieces of wood WITH small pockets or groves.
I do use wood but it has gentle curves. I also use tube shaped caves that are open on both ends. I am experimenting with other materials but have not found anything for when they are small. They do not like PVC.
Sorry for the confusion.
