European catfishes
Hi!
How many species of catfishes live in europe? I`m thinked to travel and search european catfishes, it would be nice to see them in nature . Finlands catfish list is not huge , but in Sweden live Silurus glanis, can you recommed some places to see european cats? Any info about european cats is welcome?

Re: European catfishes
is the only native European catfish I believe. You can also find introduced (from North America) in several countries, especially France.

Re: European catfishes
One of those minor pieces of trivia I cling to! It's such an obscure species we don't even have (and I've never seen) a picture of it.

Re: European catfishes
I think it looks pretty much exactly like the wels. But then again, I have been wrong before.

Re: European catfishes
They think they got a pic of a S. aristotelis - this is a rather reputable site closely related/collaborating with FishBase http://www.fishing-worldrecords.com/sci ... telis/show

Re: European catfishes
Very interesting fish but, like you say, a cod-like fish (Gadiformes) not a catfish (Siluriformes).november wrote:there is another one.lota lota (burbot or bubbot).

Yes indeed, burbot are NOT catfish. They were thought to be extinct here in the uk but a couple have been caught in recent years by anglers

Re: European catfishes
The beauty is in the eye of a beholder. I love the way they look too but google "the ugliest fish in the world festival in Minnesota" and you will see. E.g., http://screen.yahoo.com/festival-celebr ... 07913.htmlnovember wrote:there is another one.lota lota (burbot or bubbot).

Eelpout = burbot.
