help id black spotted L# ?????new mouth pic 5feb

i need help to id this pleco, please help. i bought 3 of these a year ago, they were about 2 1/2 in. Now they are about 4 1/2inch. black with gold spots. have been this size for a while. they dont come out in the open often, hard to photo. Thanks Jason

Hard to say from that picture. A side on shot (lateral view) would help us get a better view of exactly what the fish looks like.

since it's blue.

I don't think its L082 or L128. I'm guessing a species of Hypancistrus. But I am not really sure, I would really like a better picture.

I was thinking Rio Orinoco based Hypancistrus based on the overall shape and the eyes being mostly on top of the head, but I don't think it's that useful to guess when the picture isn't very clear.

It is nice and it seems to be a female, I don't agree with any of the numbers being suggested but better pictures will definitely help.

with that picture I will agree, hypan, but the spots look really orange, is the color true or is it just showing due to lighting/camera settings?

the color in the photois pretty true. and again largest is about 4 1/2 inch (male?)tip to tip, the other two are a bit smaller, 3 1/2 to 4 in ( females?). So if i get this right you think its a Hypancistrus contradens?
