Hard to say from that picture. A side on shot (lateral view) would help us get a better view of exactly what the fish looks like.

Re: help id black spotted L# ?????
I don't think its L082 or L128. I'm guessing a species of Hypancistrus. But I am not really sure, I would really like a better picture.

Re: help id black spotted L# ?????
I was thinking Rio Orinoco based Hypancistrus based on the overall shape and the eyes being mostly on top of the head, but I don't think it's that useful to guess when the picture isn't very clear.Suckermouth wrote:I don't think its L082 or L128. Problematically, looks very similar, which is why I was hesitant to post a specific ID without a better picture.jabones wrote:thanks for all the replys, i will post better pics as soon as i can get one. and Hypancistrus contradens is looking like the right suspect so far.

Yes please post better picture of this pleco.
It is nice and it seems to be a female, I don't agree with any of the numbers being suggested but better pictures will definitely help.

My guess is it is a washed out colored, slightly stressed, Hypancistrus contradens.

so based on two pictures, neither of which shows much of anything other than color and that it is a loricaridae, you can clearly rule out paraoto?apistomaster wrote: Definitely not a Parotocinclus species.

From the photos posted it is identical in appearance to my Hypancistrus contradens. Not very good photos though...

with that picture I will agree, hypan, but the spots look really orange, is the color true or is it just showing due to lighting/camera settings?

Re: help id black spotted L# ?????newest pic is better
the color in the photois pretty true. and again largest is about 4 1/2 inch (male?)tip to tip, the other two are a bit smaller, 3 1/2 to 4 in ( females?). So if i get this right you think its a Hypancistrus contradens?
