Re: The "Jools' new fishroom post"
How you doing mate? Just got back onto the site after a long absenteeism (new business, way to busy!!). Congratulations firstly to yourself and Claire on the newish arrival (the baby that is, bumped into your bro) and well done on the fishroom/extension. Looks fantastic, puts my office/fishroom to ...

Cheap Digital Thermometer
Hi Guys Just got back from a visit to IKEA, and while perusing the usual Kitchen bits and bobs and all the other ramdom crap you find up there, I came across something that I thought might be pretty useful. Its a digital meat/cooking thermometer and timer. Its a small digital unit only a couple of ...

Adonis feeding habits
Hi All, My adonis is looking healthy, approx 7" in length, but my main concern is that whenever he is fed there seems to be a huge amount of waste food. I know that they feed on wood, but is this actually there staple dietetary need, and am I purely just supplimenting this with pellets etc. Thanks ...

As stated previously, it depends hugely on the water and food. I presently have fry of two and a half months old that have easily outgrown fry of four months old, and the only difference is that the smaller ones are in the main tank (48x15x18), and the larger are in a small tank (10x8x8) inside the ...

I have just had another two spawnings in the last 10 days. The same male but with seperate females obviously. The reason that I am writing this was because previously I was asked if removing the eggs from the male would reduce the time between batches? I was unsure but now I believe that although ...

Urgent Help for Zebra Fry
I have a batch of 2 month old Zebra fry, and today one of the fry became bloated and died . Having watched them for the remainder of the day another two have developed the same distended abdomen. it appear to be a gas build up or something as you can clearly see the transparency of the region. The ...

I've now got 18 babies from four different spawnings, 2 from the first, 1 from the second, 7 from the third and 8 from the last. The last two spawnings I have removed the eggs from the father as I suspected him of eating the babies onece they had hatches. So hopefully I'll have some more on the way ...

Sexing L260's
Can anyone confirm for me the sexing of a L260, I am aware that some people believe that the females have completely white bellies whereas the males have spots and stripes continuing into this area. I have recently pick up three of these and I believe that I have two females and one male, this was ...

Tank size
hi König Löwe The tanks that Ive set up are 30x12x12, seven inches of which I have segregated for the development of the fry. I have set up a couple of slate caves in each and will move the fish over this week sometime. I decided to use an undergravel system with a sand substrate and a 900lph pow ...

Breeding Zebras
I have just completed three new tanks, which I will split my group of Zebras into pairs. You are correct about the dominance and the reason for my splitting them was exactly this. I believe that the dominant male is preventing the other males from taking females, my dominant male is presently ...

Twitching
I wouldn't be too concerned with the twitching, nearly all of mine have displayed this at one time or another, I can only explain in in human terms and to me it's like their stretching, or just getting rid of some excess energy. Mine sort of shimmy about and often stretch their tails around towards ...

Substrate for breeding tanks
I recently posted this on the Speak easy board, but had little reply. I really could do with some more advice from anyone out there, as the tanks are coming next week. I am presently setting up a couple of breeding tanks and I want to use sand as the substrate, however I am a little shocked at the ...

I've seen this very often with mine, and theyre in a large tank. This behaviour is not specific to the males either, last week two of my females battled for about twenty minutes for this little spot under the bogwood. I also think it is more common in juveniles (sizing each other up) my larger males ...

I'm really surprised that nobody has mentioned Beef Heart yet! I feed this to my Zebra's and they really devour it every time. It is full of protein and is very low in fat, and is very clean- and I've not had any signs of Mad Zebra disease yet. My Adonis and my L114 all seem to enjoy it also. Cheers ...

Hi All, To reply to Zebra_pl*co food comments, I also use the KingBritish pellets but found that the pleco tabs dissolve in the water for too fast and can make quite a mess, however the KB Catfish pellets are excellent, fast sinking and small enough in size that the small zebras can focus on one ...

Hi Yann, sorry for not replying sooner. The temp change i spoke of was a general increase in temp, I normally kept the fish at 27degrees but after only a week of a rise to 29 degrees the fish spawned. I would not consider leaving my heater off over night, there would likely be a drop of about 10 ...

Hi Yann, Sorry for not responding sooner. I'll give you the rundown on the tank set up. It's a 48x15x18 inch tank (55 us gallons approx). Filtered by two 1600l/h powerheads attached to 4x 1inch pipes that run under the gravel to the other end, where they join up to two large sponges giving a one ...
