My tandans...
I believe they are mainly freshwater fish... they can grow pretty big, both my tandans measure in at about 5 inches or so. They're still little, but what upsets me the most is I got them when they were only 1" long and I'd grown them up to the 5" over the past year into that size.

I do, but the camera was acting up the day I took the photos. The camera wasn't picking up light/dark for some reason. (I think it was cuz the batteries were nearly dead)

Tribute to my Tandan Catfish
I drew this for my recently departed Tandan. (he appears "doped out" on darker screens, so turn up your brightness to see him better)
I also made a little animated gif (in my signature below)

Back from the pet store...
Ok, I bought a bottle of MelaFix (Cajeput Oil 9.23 g/L) and a bottle of Fungus Cure (2.00mg/ml Acriflavine and 0.40mg/ml Malachite Green) It's all the pet store had in range (I live in a small town, so there's limited range on meds) I took the other tandan out with the smaller bald patch on him and ...

I feel real bad now... I didn't quarantine the black shark... :( If it is an infection, it's my own stupidity at fault. Now my poor catfish has to suffer. :( The tank contains other catfish, 3 big black salmontail catfish (arius graeffi), an asian bumblebee catfish, another tandan (who has a small ...

HELP! My cat has been skinned/finrotted!
I don't know if this is the appropriate forum, but here goes. I just checked my cats (I feed them at this time of night) and my poor tandan catfish has been skinned alive! It also looks like he's got finrot? This has only just happened today because they were fine yesterday. It seems that the new ...

Ideas?
Visit the local pet store and get some cheap feeder guppies or small live brine-shrimp... Your catfish has been used to "wild waters" since he was a fry and is not used to being fed pre-made dinners... he wants to hunt and bring down live prey like he's done all his life. If feeder guppies/shrimps ...

Need help - Guppy has got black eyes all of a sudden!?
Hi all.
I just checked on my fishtank and noticed my male guppy has suddenly got black eyes. Is this a bad thing?
I've seen the female guppy get black eyes before, but they returned to normal after a little while. I'm just wondering what these black eyes mean and what causes it?

Oooh!
Okay then, I'll quit with the algae wafers and bloodworms for a little while. (can I still give the guppies a few floating flakes?)
I'll be taking a water sample into the pet store later on today.
PS: Thanks for everyone's advice so far.

Yeah, the tank water is still cloudy as it was this morning. I was just thinking, it wouldn't be cloudy because of the algae wafers I put in for the bristlenoses would it? These small green wafer discs don't take long to disintergrate into green mush - but in a filter/airpumped tank (which I have ...

Yeah, I did... that water was filthy. I was just looking at other threads relating to cloudy water... many asked questions on the tank's stats. Mine are: It's a 3 foot tank with a corner filter (carbon and wool type) and air pump, and the water usually gets a 50% change every 2 weeks. Tank ...

Cloudy tank water???
I just cleaned out the tank yesterday afternoon, and now, this morning, the water is a little cloudy. The water used to be nice and clear. There are no tank plants in their (just plastic ones), and the heater is set at 28 degrees (don't know the conversion for farenheit but 27-28 degrees here is ...

But what if I can't see their bellies properly? They are constantly moving and it's hard to catch a good look. Especially when they dart back into their logs after each mouthful.

How much is enough? (Bloodworms)
Hi guys. I've been feeding my cats frozen bloodworms lately, and am just wondering... how much is enough to feed: 2 x 2" long tandanus eel-tailed catfish 1 x 5" long arius graeffi catfish The bloodworms come in compacted frozen cubes... about 1.5cm x 1.5cm x .8cm in size. One cube doesn't last long ...

Yep.
It's a Graeffi then. He's jet black and has rounded off fins. I actually got the ID yesterday cuz I talked to the manager of the aquarium and he does all the fish orders. He showed me a big book on catfish with colour photos of native australian cats and showed me the differences there.

Albino Shark...
Yeah, the Albino Shark is identical to the Rainbow Shark - it looks exactly the same, but its white with red fins/eyes... its just your typical common aquarium albino. Cost about $2 each. I've taken both Sharks out last night. But they are in a glass bottle. Not much fun in there. The only other ...

What about the albino shark? It's identical to the rainbow shark except its white with red fins/eyes... Someone's been nipping at my catfish's fins! =>:(
Hey all, I just went to feed my cats and noticed that the fins on my big 15cm long Arius Graeffi (Salmontailed Catfish) have big chunks missing out of them. (I'm proud of my graeffi, he's my favourite catfish in the tank) I've recently added 4 new fish to the tank in the last 2 days... 1 x Albino ...

I don't have a digital camera (yet) to take snaps of my catfish, but I'm hoping someone can help me out IDing one of my cats.
How can I tell the difference between a "Arius graeffei" and a "Arius berneyi"
... both species look identical.
Thanks in advance.

I was watching my Salmon-tailed Catfish this morning and noticed his right fin looks red/bloodied, and it looks like theres a tiny lump there too. *nods* Thanks. I did a google search on grunting catfish and a website said some catfish will grunt if they are in an aggressive mood. Hi. I have a Salmon-tailed Catfish in my tank, he's about.. ooh, say 10 - 12cm long? Right now, he is swimming around and making an occassional short/quick "grnt... ... ...grnt... ... ... gnt" sound. What's this mean - is he trying to tell me something? Is it good or bad? He is on a diet of ...
