Re: Pics of my Brachyplatystoma Juruense

Nice fish.
I have lost a couple and found one that was feeding on worms. After getting him I have not had any other problems. I'll never feed mine feeder fish again. I think these fish are too sensitive and the junk the feeders bring in is just not worth the risk. My fish has a great feeding ...

From what I can see and having kept a few in the past it looks normal. My present one does the same thing.
How large is that one? Looks nice

Woggies
The "fake" one is more than I care to admit. The pic I posted 3/4 was an import that cost 350, 7 years ago. Had it for about 5

This is not a great shot. I took it and ran home to log into here and compare. The other pic is horrible because of floating the fish then putting it on a white background and taking a pic. I'm not disputing what it is just putting up a more accurate pic.

I'm trying to get a pic up off of my phone that shows a side shot of the fish. This shot I think people may see why I would not second guess what it was and just buy it.

Groke, He's doing great and shows the most potential of staying healthy and living long of any I have had. I think it has to do largely in part to not feeding it feeder goldies which I was told not to do here on the board.
His new home is coming this week. 4'x3'x18"
I am trying to grow him before ...

These guys seem to grow no matter what you do. I feed mine using this long plastic stick with earth worm impaled on the end. He gets a hold of it and it's like an angry pit bull.
I have to feed each fish to try and control the growth rates and make sure the others get food with this guy around.

I don't know what to say. I felt it as soon as I saw it. My friend went through the trouble to find it and I felt I had to buy it then.
The first thing I did was tell him he(pet shop) may have been taken. Then I came here to compare juv. pics to the fish. I'd have to say mine has more spotting than ...

I am keeping one with my Zebra shovelnose and i find that the Lima stays behind the bog wood more often and anytime it eats it leaves the current. The Zebra seems to "sit" in the current.

Worried!!

Image
Is the pink something to worry about? Is there a water quality problem? There are only two fish and ample filtration. Water is hard. He is fed worm every other day by tweezers. Nothing bothers him. Could it be the flash?

I got him today. Its been in the shop for 3 weeks now and everytime we've been in there it has eaten small earthworm pieces from tweezers. NO FEEDERS and it will never get them.
Currently about 3 inches in length and enjoying massive airation and current.
So here I go.
Pics to come.

RMS. That's it. Cleveland, Ohio. Don't know about a web site but you should be able to find the contact info with the name. We lived up there a bit and that was a must see at least 2 times a month. It was about 70 mile ride. Our Chiclid club meetings were held up there.

One place to keep an eye on is That Fish Place, That Pet Place in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I've found some of my best finds there. There is a place in Ohio around Cleveland also. I cannot think of the name right now. They also order alot of off the wall cats the smaller shops won't mess with.
At ...

Thanks for the reply.
I agree that the problems may very well have stem from the use of feeder fish from the chain stores. Over eating, sudden unexplianable deaths. I find no thrills in feeding live food to my animals. I keep alot of reptiles also. So there is no need to get back into feeders. I ...

Platystoma juruense, Zebra Shovelnose care

I've tried to keep a few of these, three I think, and have lost each one. I've read the water and general requirements for this fish but something always went wrong. One case may have been an overeating. The fish was found a feeder and several others in its mouth. I know I have VERY hard water and ...
