Re: Hyhy fish thread.
Hello! Been a hot minute since I posted, life got in the way and other stuff took priority. The past week I have been getting back to the tanks. Not much progress on the new tank that will be for the L200s but all four are since 1 month or so ago in the same tank "temporarily"(seems to be rather ...

Re: Hyhy fish thread.
Hyhy , I don't know Aquael Ultramax 2000, but I watched the tutorial on Youtube and it looks like an excellent filter, especially the fact that it has a mechanical prefilter is a very important aspect for us plecos lovers. I am very satisfied with my Oase BioMaster Thermo 850, but the one you have ...

Re: Hyhy fish thread.
So wen't with a canister filter for the L200 tank even if I have some concerns. Wen't with a "Aquael Ultramax 2000", watched a few videos deciding between that one and an fx6. In the end everyone saying it's silent and the fact that I have good experinces with Aquael as a brand sealed the deal ...

Re: Tank size for group of 4 Baryancistrus Demantoides?
I've owned a pretty good sized individual, the only time I could measure the fish at maximum size was around 15cm SL but later grew I assume a little more. They can throw their weight around but I don't think they do as much as true Baryancistrus. Visualising footprint either the 90 or 120. Gives ...

Re: Found a little cory, any ideas what the fellow is?
Think that now it's pretty safe to say that it is indeed a sterbai. Still a mystery how it ended up in the tank but can only be from eggs with plants(moved some floating plants I guess). Moved it over to the group of adults 1 hour or so ago and it seems very happy and keeps following the larger ones ...

Re: Tank size for group of 4 Baryancistrus Demantoides?
Hyhy , For the filter I'm not an expert, but I certainly wouldn't lose 10 cm in the length of the aquarium. Everything but not that solution :-! I am feeling incredibly comfortable with the Oase biomaster thermo 850 external filter. it is simply fantastic, it has the heater inside the filter, so ...

Re: Tank size for group of 4 Baryancistrus Demantoides?
Thinking some about what I will do for filtration of the tank. Don't really like external filters or sumps due to past experiences. So my thoughts are either just running with 2 larger spongefilters+wavemaker but suspect I would have to change water often to keep it somewhat pleasant to look at ...

Re: Tank size for group of 4 Baryancistrus Demantoides?
@emanuel Thanks for the input. They do eat regular potatoes, zucchini, wafers, flakes etc so not that worried. I guess they simply don't recognise certain veggies as food yet, the two smaller ones have come around regarding yams and now eat them, but they do prefer regular potatoes still. I do treat ...

Re: Tank size for group of 4 Baryancistrus Demantoides?
Tank arrived, not much to say it's a glass box. Tried to snag a couple of pics of the L200s in their temporar homes but they didn't really cooperate. Maybe the pictures will show the difference in size between the 2 larger ones and the 2 smaller ones, which is a slight concern for me. Will the ...

Re: Mysterious death of Hemiancistrus subviridis
Sounds like you do what you can, sometimes this hobby truly sucks. Could also be some other thing that's wrong with parameters like GH etc but I am not very knowledgeable about stuff outside the most common things maybe someone else got any suggestion? Weird thing is that superficially they look ...

Re: Found a little cory, any ideas what the fellow is?
Yes only one and it's truly somewhat of a mystery. I am also guessing it's atleast 1 month old(?) since it's clearly decently sized and I don't put any food into the tank(there are detritusworms and alot of plant matter/snails in there though so guess it found something to eat. I would say the ...

Re: Mysterious death of Hemiancistrus subviridis
I can understand that, was more into "tear tank down" thinking since else it wouldn't be doable I think. Of course it's not likely it will help since tank seems healthy otherwise? Have you measured ph/kh etc so nothing funky going on there? Might be harder for wild caught fish to handle values out ...

Re: Mysterious death of Hemiancistrus subviridis
Sad to hear, have you considered just removing them from the tank and see what happens just to eliminate the tank itself as a source? Might be a huge undertaking though and would be a pity to break down such an awesome scape.

Found a little cory, any ideas what the fellow is?
I realize it might be tricky. Found the little one in a plant storage tank in which I have not had any corydoras. Either he followed with a plant during some swap or he is from an egg that I may or may not have thrown in there a couple of months ago(remember thinking about doing so but can't recall ...

Re: Tank size for group of 4 Baryancistrus Demantoides?
Tank is ordered wen't with a 120x50x50(300 litres or 80~ gallon) tank. Should hopefully arrive at the end of this week will post pics then, maybe ill catch some of the plecos before that :) If tank is smallish longterm I will have to save up for a large one but this will have to do for now. Taking ...

Hyhy fish thread.
Already got the plecos over the last month or two, they are acclimating okay and seems to be eating. For now I have them in existant tanks but planning on ordering a tank and setup it specifically for the group, who knows in some years maybe I get to write a breeding report even though that seems ...

I can't tell you how and if it affects fry but I didn't have any losses(or problems) using it, I just followed instructions don't think changing water after was even mentioned but I probably did regardless. Maybe there are even better alternatives and again it's just guesswork really. Terrible to ...

Re: Mysterious death of Hemiancistrus subviridis
I would treat entire tank yes. Of course I am not very convinced this is the problem but it could atleast be a way of eliminating one potential source of what the problem is.
Hope some more experienced keepers chime in.

Re: Mysterious death of Hemiancistrus subviridis
I used eSHa-ndx with success on other fish and it's harmless as far as I know so might be worth a shot. Normally they would get emanciated(don't see that here) and stringy poop but I suspect not eating could be a symptom aswell.

Sorry to hear that you are having troubles(I also have some minor ones with my small Demantoides but that's for another thread -_-). Fish looks healthy to me, except for the obvious of course, which is kinda weird.
But as you said he stopped eating, have you tried to deworm them?

Re: Is polypropylene with "UV-Stablizier" okay in aquariums?
Thanks for your thoughts. If it makes any difference it's bricks of plastic that you place under floors. Thinking about using them similiar to how people use egg-crate(which is not really a thing on this side of the big pond) to protect the bottom of the tank and provide stability for rock ...

Is polypropylene with "UV-Stablizier" okay in aquariums?
I know the plastic itself is food graded but the part of it having "UV-stablizier" in it makes me second guess myself, anybody who got any knowledge/educated guesses on the subject?
