Re: P. pangasius vs. P. hypothalamus
I don't know anything about the id in question, but I want to say, like Mats said before me, that they could very well just be from different stocks (different breeders/exporters). I've had the same situation with "Bala sharks", twice my lfs got shipments of obviously different looking fish ...

This should be obvious but I want to be 100%. Agamyxis The naked aerea under the first dorsal spine looks like a upwards pointing arrow, but in other fish I see pictures of it is more rounded. http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyprinoid/3111333324/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyprinoid/3111332728/ This ...

Re: Heteropneustes fossilis - missed spawn?
I too have found H. fossilis fry, even in neighbouring tanks, probably eggs attached to plants that has been moved around. How does your H. fossilis behave when in such a large group? When I kept one it was like an angel, but at one time I had 10 and they where connstantly attacking other fish ...

Re: Three barbeled beggars!!
As much as I love them I have given up on mochokids, I always end up with hybrids. But I'd take a chance if I found H. membranaceus on any lists or shops. They would be perfect for my african setup.

Re: History of the Common pl*co [Hypostomus]
I found this in my shelf:
Akvarieboka, first edition 1955, secound (this) edition 1960
Plecostomus plecostomus
The only thing it says about origin is South America.

I got them yesterday, 3 tiny ones and 1 a little bigger, still very small. They are pink, but fortunately they have blck eyes. I am not sure what to look for id-wise, but I think they are a little more slender and their headshape is different from C. batrachus . But it may be almost ten years since ...

I don't know about P.maccus, but I have two panaque tanks with P. nigrolineatus type fish, L190, L191, L27, L330 and L203. And they certainly do eat brush algae. There's no sign of brush algae except in deep depressions in the wood where they can't get to it. They will also clean the glass and rocks ...

Giant Bumblebee Catfish?
I haven't actually seen this fish, only in a importers list, but what is it likely to be?
It says 'wild caught' and the price is relatively low, like a standard banjo catfish.

H. fossilis pose danger to tankmates?
Have anyone ever experienced or heard that Heteropneustes fossilis has kille ather fish by stinging them? Either during territorial fighting or when predated upon?
I am worried about adding one to my collection because of this.

The palm imo. The mystery of the L330 is now solved, it died from some worm-like parasites. I'm now sure that my observations were correct but based on the wrong assumptions. Since I had treated it for worms several times I trusted that it was clean. What happend imo is that when the fish were on a ...

To make things worse. In this post I actually ment Yucca , the palm-like houseplant. The problem I keep on getting back to is: (And this is only my guess) From what I have observed it seems that panaques can set themselves a wood eating mode and a greens mode. If I don't offer veggies for weeks my ...

Hi Shane, thank you for answering. I know you have mentioned before that collectors baited their traps with yuca, but I understood that you used yuca as another word for manioc. I am a little confused. This is what I am talking about (this time): http://www.flowers.org.uk/images/plants/yucca_lrg.jpg ...

One more 'panaque vs food' question
I am quite experienced with panaques by now and I have saved quite a few from death by starvaton. But my new 20 cm L330 refuse to gain weight, I have tried a lot of greens (potatoes, squash, peas, carrots etc etc) and filled them with algae wafers. But still it continues to lose weight. Of course it ...
