Re: Ompok pabo husbandry
Can't help you with husbandry, but the fish in the pictures appear to be O. pabda; O. pabo has really short maxillary barbels, barely extending past the eye.

I'd be greatly obliged if you could find the time, HH.
I've emailed Skelton as well, but he too has a hard copy and is presently unable to access his office due to covid restrictions.

I think you are thinking of Janne (Ekström), not Yann Fulliquet.
Yes, I was. Apologies.
that is what they have been doing in Brazil and with great success; by stopping the trade in fish whole area's became economically worthless and if an area is "worthless' it's an easy target for a dam or ...

The second fish seems to resemble Cetopsorhamdia phantasia , as illustrated in Fishes from the lower Urubamba river (22MB PDF, page 437).
The fish in the paper shows a distinctive row of spots across the middle of all the fins, something that is not clear in Amiidae's picture, but is apparent in ...

This means that the trade in them generate no revenue in the fishes' home range, and hence no financial incentive to protect them.
More or less the point MatsP made. The way I see it, there is nothing stopping farmers in the country of origin raising large numbers of fish. Yes, they're a bit ...

Re: Should the location of newly discovered species be hidde
So, the battlefield here is perception, not fact. We, IMHO, so stop throwing facts around and deal with changing the perception.
Changing perceptions is not an easy thing to do. It doesn't help that the portrait of an aquarist as a scientist/conservationist is well hidden behind the portrait of ...

Re: Should the location of newly discovered species be hidde
A subjective question, and perhaps not very practical. It makes sense when the species has a very restricted distribution. But, if the known distribution falls outside a protected area, how do you make a case for protecting the species if location data is not disclosed?

Re: Looking for Catfish to go with Roseline Sharks
Hi Darryl,
Are you looking for catfish in particular, or just something to fill out the lower levels of the tank? If the latter, I'd recommend loaches rather than catfish. Something like Mesonemacheilus triangularis or M. guentheri , which share the same habitat in the wild, or one of the Indian ...

(a) smaller, even spots
(b) bristles rarely bi/trifurcated
(c) much harder to spawn. The common ancistrus in the American hobby takes about as much effort to spawn as a pair of convicts. These are much pickier about water parameters and spawning locations
(d) pickier about diet

Hi all,
I've had these for about 2 years now. No idea about provenance, they were purchased in Singapore and I'm the third owner. Male in the picture is about 12cm TL. They seem to prefer meaty foods and are a touch more particular about water parameters (very soft) and spawning locations ...

Does it really make sense for a small-non chain store to invest in a snazzy web store? I am of the opinion this is something the chain stores can do, not smaller retailers.

Could you please clarify "1 spoon of tea per 10 liters"?
Did you add 1 spoon of dry tea leaves to 10 liters of water, or did you add 1 spoon of the brew obtained by boiling tea leaves in water to 10 liters of water?

Hi all,
Was just browsing through the All Catfish Species Inventory and saw a pic of this fish... struck me as very Gagata like, especially the head. Does it come from similar habitats? And any ideas about diet?
