Re: Gap between tank and stand
I was thinking about this topic for a bit and I think I'm going back to trying to reinforce the original cabinet. I was looking into different types of wood and their compression and their bending strength. I just purchased bubinga 4x4 wood(5) for the support columns and spruce 2x4 for the skeleton ...

After this is set up, I'll be building a wooden "she'll" around this to make it look like a wooden cabinet

Re: Gap between tank and stand
Ok, after putting in some thought about this issue, I came up with 2 options: scrap the cabinet and make a new one, or modify the existing cabinet and hope it can stand 1500 - 2000lbs. After thinking about a possible fail and having 2000lbs of water everywhere, it was obvious to me that I will scrap ...

I was just thinking about doing that today. I'm probably going to use the current cabinet for a future tank(maybe) and just support this tank with cinder blocks. Then make a shell around it to hide the blocks.

A picture of the inside at on end without the doors on?
Do you mean just open the doors and take a picture of the inside? I'm confused

Re: Gap between tank and stand
When I completed the stand I felt confident. But thinking about it, I'm questioning myself. I'm now thinking of cutting the tanks footprint right through the cabinet to the floor. Then use cinder blocks to hold the tank. Does that make sense? Would you like me to draw up a diagram? Sent from my HTC ...

Re: Gap between tank and stand
Thnx kvnbyl. Have you ever had a issue with gaps? I think I'm trying to find reassurance. The last thing I want to do is ditch this cabinet(worked on it for a while) and buy another cabinet.

Gap between tank and stand
I have a 120 gal on a stand and upon examination I found that there is a gap in the middle between the tank and stand. This gap fits a popsicle stick (or for my Canadian brothers, a toonie). The gap tapers off to each corner and all corners are flush with the stand surface. The tank is made by ...

ID - What is this???
I need help Identifying this type of rock. it is grey in colour with thin white lines running through it. its surface is ridged with fissures (almost like a miniature cliff) and I am not able to remove or rub particles off. I have cut it transversely and polished the exposed face: the colour is very ...

Re: Aquarium Project Question
ah ha, ok. funny you mentioned it. I googled it before I posted and I saw and skipped the cichlid forum site - didn't think it would have much. it did answer one question. height of an aquarium has significant effect on tensile strength and bow of the acrylic. so would a decrease in height enable me ...

Aquarium Project Question
hello, hello, hello. so I'm in the midst of planning a high tech aquarium (which I will be posting in Tank Journals when I get things started) and I plan on building 120 (probably more) gallon aquarium from scratch with acrylic sheets. now, I don't want to use the standard measurements. what I'm ...

Re: UV sterilization harmful/helpful? Thanks!
I bet the UV is the reason why I've never had any diseases, among other factors of course. except for the very first tank I got had ich, which was 4-5 years ago. since then, nothing. I'd hate to find signs and symptoms of disease then prep a QT and collect all the fish, then meds, then carbon, and ...

Re: Baby Cory's missing jaw?
if you are breeding these corys and just in case this jawless cory was the result of inbreeding, then I would advise you to take him out of the breeding group. you don't want his corrupt genetics being passed on to the next generation. when I breed my fish, I will notice corrupt genes (not to the ...

I only put the UV on for a day or two once a month. leaving it on constantly can get expensive.

Re: Where to buy brown bullheads for a pond?
I've wanted to keep a brownie a while back. im not sure what your legislation is with keeping game fish but here in Ontario, if you keep a game fish then it counts for a fish of your limit on your licence. say your licence is 5 catfish per day, well if you keep two in an aquarium then your limit is ...

Re: RTC Dark gills, Normal ? Hefty breathing, Other fish OK.
hmmm i'm wondering if its anoxia or necrosis of the gills. do you see any pieces missing from the gill? any puss-like secretions? if the rest of the fish are fine then that would lead me towards a parasite. something that is attached to its gills and is taking advantage of the alveoli-like ...

Re: My lace syndontis is she pregnant?
Its hard to say exactly what's going on. keep a close eye on the fish and adjust feeding habbits - lets rule out over feeding. feed every other day with small amounts, meanwhile looking out for breeding behaviours (increased activity...)

hmmm, if you can could you put a ruler inside with them so we could determine eachs length? I'm not 100% but just rapid fire answer I would say: 1)M 2)M 3)F* 4)M 5)F 6)M 7)M 8)F 9)F? 10)F. now don't follow this because I'm not sure of their size and specific characteristics such as odontodes but for ...
