Re: Fish Trapped [Resolved] aka Dangers of Fake Logs
Glad Phil was saved! Here's two more to warn about, both fish were saved. Coconuts with holes in the end - Twigs ( Farlowella vittata ) fit right into the little holes but can't back out. Mini plant pots sold with aquarium plants. If your plant gets pushed out of the pot, many corys will fit ...

Re: synodotis lufirae possible white spot? Itching?
[...] Sometimes aquarium salt helps with ich - if it is ich. I personally hate the meth blue and malachite green, and find it to be too strong for the fish at even half doses, but not strong enough to wipe out the ich. Temperature raise + salt has always worked for me. I dosed at a rate of 1 ...

Re: synodotis lufirae possible white spot? Itching?
well the good news is all itching appears to have stopped. The white marks have all but disappeared. All i have done is increased the temp and changed 20 - 25% water every 2 to three days. Also been adding melafix and pimafix daily. The temp is at 29 so i may just leave it at that for now. He's ...

[...] 2 - if purpose made ornaments etc are expensive, then create your own; depending on how creative you are. Slate, silicon, terracotta pieces etc can all be used to great effect - or even (depending on where you live) befriend your local pottery shop & you can get something custom made very ...

Re: Fish Trapped [Resolved]
Wow! Glad you got that sorted out with only minor wounds (to you and Phi). An alternate title of this thread could be "The Dangers of Fake Logs". And so much for that. Yeah, I'm VERY glad I managed to rescue Phi without serious damage. I updated the thread title as per your suggestion. Good warning ...

Got some photos of Phi this morning during feeding. Very difficult to grab a shot. Scratch along side. Couldn't get photos of the main scratches towards the front though. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-fhUEfVJQCmE/TycYickH0lI/AAAAAAAAAE4/tFEe5GUHW4k/s640/Phi%2520Side%2520Scratch%252031-01-2012 ...

Re: tiger synodontis
Yes, they certainly look hybrid. Not sure what the parent's would be - unless they look very similar to one of the parent species, it's often hard to say - could be that one parent is S. decora, but far from certain. Care should be similar to other Synos - will eat most things, will be mainly ...

Fish Trapped [Resolved] aka Dangers of Fake Logs
I just wanted to post my experience here so that if anyone else runs into the same issue OR has any recommendations how how to have handled it differently. (TL;DR at bottom for short version) Yesterday morning I had been re-arranging some driftwood in my 3ft Malawi Set Up which is home to some ...

Re: Jealous much?
I could live with one tank if that was the one. Mark I couldn't. :)) I have about 9 tanks currently, about to purchase a 6ft. My three main ones live with me in my office at University. Student's are always taken aback when they see the tanks in here. :-p I do like the size of the tank, but I think ...

Re: If you could do anything...
What are peoples opinion on braceless tanks? Assuming the only real advantage is not having annoying bits in the way for maintenance? The point of rimless/braceless is purely cosmetic. If you will be running the tank with a hood, there is absolutely no point in the extra expense, as you cannot see ...

Re: If you could do anything...
As odd as it sounds... I want an aquarium big enough for me to swim in >_> I personally think it'd be pretty cool... :)) Ideally, I'd love to have an indoor pond or moat, with the level below having viewing windows. But won't be able to afford that any time soon! ;)) Realistically, probs a 7 or 8 ...

Re: My Public Aquarium: exhibit blues - how to make them?
Coming on nicely! This might sound like a crazy idea, but I would perhaps concentrate less on the fish, in terms of the business aspect. I would think about making the area just a nice place to hang out in, perhaps like a cafe with tables, water features, plants, decorative features etc. I would ...

Re: New Tank Set Up
Ah, I should add - whichever catfish I get must grow big enough to not be eaten by an adult BGK. Currently the temprament of the BGK is rather calm, but excitable at feeding time. It accepts a wide variety of frozen food and has now started eating freeze-dried foods. It is currently kept with the ...

New Tank Set Up
Good morning, :-H I'll be breaking down my current 3ft set up while the fish move on to a 6ft tank; but I am looking at setting up my 3ft tank to hold a variety of fish from the 6-7ph range. Temp range will be around 26-28C So far the fish going in there are: (currently spread out across multiple ...
