New Tank Set Up

Post by Alisana »

Good morning, :-H

I'll be breaking down my current 3ft set up while the fish move on to a 6ft tank; but I am looking at setting up my 3ft tank to hold a variety of fish from the 6-7ph range. Temp range will be around 26-28C

So far the fish going in there are: (currently spread out across multiple tanks)
3 x clown loach (5cm long)
3 x yoyo loach (6cm long) - maybe 1 extra at 9cm, but it's rather aggressive
1 x black knife ghost fish (10cm)
1 x L001 (I think)(7cm long)
Note: Above are estimates - some may be larger/smaller

I'm considering putting in either Severum or Discus - haven't decided yet; but I wanted some suggestions on some catfish that may go in there.

I've found a supplier who has L333s, L168s and L002s (I'm a fan of striped catfish) - but wanted to have some recommendations/suggestions on what I could put in there. A catfish that enjoys a diet of algae, vegetables as well as frozen food such as brine shrimp/bloodworms would be ideal. I cannot have a carnivore like a L046 - nor can I afford one. :-\

To clear things up - this will be a temporary tank - ideally for about 6 months; however I am willing to purchase a 4-6ft tank for the fish when they get bigger. Filtration will be similar to the Malawi set up currently: Otto Internal Power Filter (biological and chemical); as well as a DIY Undergravel Jet.

Plants will be a combination of Java Fern, Anubias, Vallisnera and possibly a ground covering plant (open to suggestions). Tank will be filled with natural wood, arranged to allow hiding places. I'm hesitating on the Severum here as I would like to aquascape the tank, however I hear they are notorious for destroying plants.

Suggestions/recommendations are welcome.

Thanks! :-BD

Ah, I should add - whichever catfish I get must grow big enough to not be eaten by an adult BGK.

Currently the temprament of the BGK is rather calm, but excitable at feeding time. It accepts a wide variety of frozen food and has now started eating freeze-dried foods. It is currently kept with the L001/Gold Spot Pleco and about 5 adult cherry shrimp (put in as an 'eating' experiment - unsure if this is a success or failure :)) )
