mine wont touch any algae at all, i wouldn't count on any Panaque doing that job for you. but he eats my veggies (potato, cucumber) and devours my african root wood. it might not be his most preferred wood but he leaves piles of sawdust and it quite healthy and FAT so he must be gettting all he ...

don't count on it being an "algae" eater in the way you i think you would like. Sure it eats some, but its not going to "keep your tank clean". try some otocinclus etc. for that task.

zebras and root wood

the cat-e-log states they might not like wood, but my L046 seems to be constantly resting on some of it. and it has many other options. just a thought.... try a piece for your little one.

algae discs....

can anyone comment on the difference between Hikari brand "sinking" and "algae" discs? My LFS was vague at best with their answer, and the ingredients are virtually identical. I've always bought the "sinking" variety as they are easily availible to me in the smaller diameter (1/4"). I feed them as ...

i agree with Caol.... I've used the Red Sea brand o2 test. It gave me the same reading on all of my tanks. Curious, i staged a test. I took some water from my roomate's betta bowl that had not seen a water change in over a month. And also tested fresh tap water saturated with o2. They both ...

My friend had a similar problem. I tested his phosphate levels and it maxed out my test. He tried the Phos-sorb from aquarium pharm. and replaced the carbon in his filter. Seemed to work well. Phosphate levels are nil and water is clearer. Also he started convering the tank during the really bright ...

otocinclus help

i bought a couple of each of what my LFS calls otocinlus niger, and otocinclus arnoldi (regular oto, it said). are these correct names. She thought that maybe the niger had a new classification taking it out of the otocinclus family but the name "oto" just stuck. any clues on my fish?

I've heard 14" but some say one of the L#s stays smaller. either way, i'd say the 20 gal is too small for the long run. You'll need to move it when as it gets bigger. But theat should take a while. I hear they are slow growers.

I realize this might be an overdone subject, but im excited. looking for fresh intelligence.... My new zebra is residing in my killi tank. They get live black worm and frozen brine shrimp. nice price... they go for $40 out here in the NW. My L200 loves cucumber and potato (all kinds). I skewer them with a chopstick and jam it in between the rocks. I have a fairly overstocked 30 gal. and to keep L# waste to a minimum I employ a large sponge in the back, bottom corner attacheed to a 802 powerhead (400gal/hr). It pulls all the waste along the bottom to the sponge where it breaks down and becomes yummy bacteria. I rinse my sponge well in the same ...

no offense either (but uber-toungue-in-cheek-humour intended), But suggesting the relatively banal "Bushynose" ancistrus as "the most beautiful of the L#'s" is as analogous to stating that a pug is the prettiest canine. Some may think so, but not many. There are undoubtedly beautiful ancistrus, but ...
