Hi Everyone,
I would really appreciate it if you could identify this pleco for me. I have a male and female and was hoping they may breed but i just want to check what they are.
I have very dim lighting in the tank, that really helps with the shyness. I just use a large arc pod for a 5ft tank. The L137 is also living with a Hypostomus faveolus L037, Squaliforma cf. emarginata L011 and Pseudorinelepis genibarbis. They all leave peacefully together. I used to keep Royals with ...
Managed to take some close up photos of my Hypostomus soniae L137. I am really impressed with this pleco. I have kept it for about 3-4 years, its about 7"-8". This pleco is extremely hardy, not shy to feed in front of you and has amazing colouration. Just wanted to share the pictures with you all :d
I bought it from wharf aquatics within the last year. It was about an inch long when i bought it and its about 2.5" now. All the shop could tell me was that its tank breed by a local breeder in sheffield, they had it advertised as Panaque.
For some reason some males can take a while to develop their bristles fully. Even when they are quite young you can separate the males from the female as the males have 2 little bristles on the front of their snout
Nice set up for the plecos! If you are keeping L046 I would keep it a species tank only! L129 and L340 are also Hypancistrus and you do not want mixed breeding to occur. L046 will not compete well for food against the L204 as well as having different dietary needs.
The adults look just like my L015 Peckoltia vittata (Candy stripes) they have not got the orange colouring of the L288. L202 Peckoltia lineola are more of a black/yellow colouration with blotchier patterns on the face. The photos are dark brown/biege L015.
It looks like the L288 Peckoltia sp. i purchased yesterday. They are a little bit like the vittata but are deeper orange and the stripes are more zig zag style. I have seen them around more frequently recently. Its common names are orange/red tiger pleco or big banded tiger pleco. Their relaxed ...
I have kept an oscar with similar sized predatory catfish in a 150g tank and they just kept out of each others way. The oscar stayed near the top parts of the tank and the catfish guarded the bottom of the tank. I do not know what species of catfish it is though, it may grow huge, maybe too big for ...
Since posting my picture my L014 pleco has left sharing beds with the black lancer and has pinched my black ghost knife fish hiding place. The black ghost knife fish now shares with the black lancer. There are loads of hiding places in my tank, I think their must be optimal hiding places, heat ...
I have a large female Peckoltia. I bought her from a local aquarist who was closing down his tank. I know for definite she is a Peckoltia vittata variety, possibly the L288, I have attached some photos. I also have some tank bred L015 Peckoltia vittata and wondered if I should let them breed with ...
My sunshine pleco (L014) Scobinancistrus aureatus and Black lancer catfish Bagrichthys macracanthus share their beds together every night (or should i say day) :-O . They can not tolerate any other fish invading their space apart from each others. They lie on top of one another or side by side, yet ...
Here is a picture of my 2 blue phantom plecos. The pleco on the left is 2.5" long and the pleco on the right is 4" long. There is quite a large contrast in the colourings of the same species. I just wondered if the blue, green and yellow hues darken as they get older and larger or is it a variation ...
Thanks for the pics megacat They are gorgeous royals , the P. titan have lovely golden tail colour. Hope my pleco keeps its tail marking but if it doesnt i love L191s anyway :d .I think it is most probably L191 as the white on its tail has no hint of golden colour. I will send another picture in if ...
Thanks Matthew Do you know if its tail fin will stay a pretty pattern as it gets bigger or does the white bits fade to green? Yeah i paid the average price you would pay for a L191 but they where advertised as L027. I knew it couldnt be L027 as again the price would have been very expensive, the ...
Out of all my plecos the most out going in the daytime are
L128 Blue Phantom
L204 Flash
L015 Tank Breed Candys but my wild candy i never see
Panaques/Large Royals I find are active some part of the daylight
Bristlenoses tank bred are constantly out
Thanks megacat
Some pics would be great. The little pleco is more vibrant green than the photos make out, I suppose the only way to know for sure is if it grows well over 12" in decades to come..lol. Here is a close up of its face it maybe will help
Yes thats the one. I have had mostly positive experiences with this website. People will show you their aquariums and the health of the other fish before you buy or swap. I realised i am not the only person addicted to plecos in my country :)) . Obviously you will get the odd person messing you ...
Oh no sorry to hear that. My local garden centre/aquarium has about 50 baby ones ready to sell to any unlucky people. They look cute when they are young and people put them in the average sized fish tank unaware (why would they be aware if they are not told or sold as something else). My friend had ...
