Re: New to Plecos. Albino Bristlenose.
Yes they can do quite well by themselves and with just one you don't have to worry about spawning but with the fin nippers I'd stay away from long fin varieties. I would also make sure enough food is getting to the bottom as you already have 3 bottom feeding cories in there add some fresh sliced veg ...

Re: Gel food diet...good or bad?
I make gel food for my fish all the time and they love it! I use a variety of protein and veggies in the mix and vary it all the time. I make some with gelatin and some with agar as the binding agent they both work but I think the agar holds together better at the warmer temps my plecos like to live ...

Re: Feeding Baby Bristlenose plecos
I feed mine blanched veggies like squash, zucchini , carrots even broccoli and just about any of the reg. fish foods I feed in my tank. I also feed algae wafers periodically and another type of sinking food called plecocaine that I purchased off AB.
They eat all the time!!

Re: L/LDA-number clearance
I bought a batch of his L134 leopard frogs just thought I'd pop in a note to let everyone know how beautiful and healthy they are! Really great fish and an excellent person to buy from- I'd buy from him again and I am kind of a cheapskate.

Re: What is the best way to catch BN fry in planted tank?
Depending on what type of pleco they are and what other fish you have in there you can bait them. Put some of their favorite nosh into a container with a lid small enough to fit your hand over ( like a short cup or larger cup turned on its side or clear acrylic breeder trap) leave it for a little ...

Re: 2 Days to go
Fantastic news on the hatching of remaining fry! I am very happy you didn't lose the rest of the eggs as you were expecting.
Now hopefully you can get a few babies out of this spawn and papa will learn from his mistake for next time. Pretty little things anyhow congrats!

Re: 2 Days to go
I hope you get at least a few successful fry too...I know it feels awful to get your hopes up about a spawn and them have things go bad for some reason.
I am keeping my fingers crossed and saying a little prayer for your future wigglers. I hope everyone is right and dad does indeed get better with ...

Regardless of what L# they turn out to be they are beautiful plecos! I have a small group of 4 that look very much like them that were sold to me as L066 as well. One of my favorites!

Is this one of those situations where is you have to ask you can't afford it? I have been oogling these plecos forever but so far they haven't fit into my "beer" budget....someday though someday!

Re: Keeping different types of pl*co L# together
So just to see if I am understanding all of this correctly if I have in my tank several members of the family Loricaridae but of different genera say ancistrus my albino bristle noses and hypancistrus my L201's for instance then ..
Can I still add from the genera peckoltia or panaque for instance ...

I am reading these posts intently and learning a lot!! BTW those L134's are FANTASTIC!!! Beautiful fish!
And I would be glad to sell you some. It is already cooling down and if fall comes early I will not be able to ship as late in the season as I usually can.

Keeping different types of pleco L# together
I am fairly new to keeping anything more exotic than a regular bristle nose pleco in my tanks but I have fallen in love with several different species/types of plecs. lately. I have done some preliminary research here and a few other sites great info. BTW. What I really want to know is what types ...

Thank you for all the replies they have helped although I am still not sure exactly what I have in my tanks.
Over 95% of the black with white/yellow spots Hypancistrus in the trade are Hypancistrus sp(l201) .
I am pretty sure this is what you have, and as the previous posters have pointed out ...

I am confused RE:L201
Ok here's the scoop I bought some really beautiful L201's and they are supposed to be an as yet un named variety not inspector or contradens.
Thats fine and dandy they are beautiful and healthy and I love them but I really don't understand what makes one L201 an "inspector" and one an " contradens ...
