Not good news I am afraid.

He has kicked whats left of the eggs out (50ish) all though they look fertile they dont seem to be able to hatch out and are dying off as they hatch.

Still really chuffed with the weeks events and hopefully I will have a more promising spawn very soon

Thanks for all the positive comments people

As I say, to get a successful spawn, you first need to get a spawn at all... So you have cleared the first hurdle (or second if you count getting fish that will spawn as the first place). There's a way to go, but it's a good step in the right direction - must be doing something right!

The last lot of eggs are now in a trap. Maybe 50-70ish. Only one of these has hatched out since I have come home and it looks very week and hardly no movement at all

Anyone got any suggestions to see if I can save these?

looks like you're doing everything you can, in a trap with good flow.

Hope some will be fine. And now that they have started breeding dad will get better at it.

I hope you get at least a few successful fry too...I know it feels awful to get your hopes up about a spawn and them have things go bad for some reason.

I am keeping my fingers crossed and saying a little prayer for your future wigglers. I hope everyone is right and dad does indeed get better with practice.

What have you currently got the eggs in? i
In the picture it look's like a glass tank.. When I have to rescue eggs, I float them in a perforated basket with an airstone so that there's plenty of water flow over the eggs. i have to admit I've never spawned something like this species though-and I'm baffled as to why the fry are dying as they hatch..Good luck with the remaining eggs(and the next spawn) David

Just got back from a weekend break and fully expected to be cleaning out a load of fungused eggs from the fry trap but to my amazement I have 20 or so strong and healthy wrigglers.

Not really one for parameters but for some reason I did take them when they spawned

PH just under 7
TDS 450ish
Temp 80c
Nitrates 15

Thats about all I ever test for.

Cheers
