Re: eggs ang fungus
I've maybe used a bad word for that. It is something that is holding the eggs and airstone is underneath with air going through bringing fresh water to the eggs. I am using the same water that is used for the aquarium of parents, just without any NO3 and contaminants resulting from the feeding of ...

eggs ang fungus
Hi all, I've had a problem with my few last spawns of L340 and L270. Too litle spawn were hatched in the dad's cave so I decided to hatch them artificially. The eggs have been immediately placed to the breeder's net and put to the pure RO water with added minerals, kh+ and acid to make water TDS ...

Re: L340 spawned before holiday
Tomorrow it will be one week they hatched. The yolk sacks are almost eaten, I guess they will start looking for food very soon. Anyway, I've created very accurate home-made feeder and have set up the aquariums the way the water is circulating between 100L and 10L aquariums constantly so they will ...

Re: L340 spawned before holiday
I've checked all available feeders and there is none with so accurate dosing. L340 do have only about 5-10 fry and an automated feeding of such small amount of fish is almost impossible, I think. Anyway, I will try to make the feeder on my own. Not sure how to do it, but I don't want to lose these ...

L340 spawned before holiday
Hi there, I was very pleased to have first spawn of my hypans. But then I realized I am leaving next Friday for one week and the fry will be starving for that time. I guess it may cause either death or some serious damage for such small fish. So, does anyone have any idea how to cope with it? I don ...

Re: Need help to sex L134
I would be very careful when sexing by odontodes with L134. I've seen colony of about 20 species, all with odontodes.

Re: L015 setup
L015 has been the first pleco I have bought. Unexperienced I have acquired 3 of them. All three turned to be females. Then I fortunatelly found someone with two males and one female only 300km from my place. So I was able to exchange one female for a male. All other plecos heve been bought at the ...

Re: L015 setup
You could be able to tell the sex if TL>8cm. The problem is it is not for sure even when you can observe their behavior for weeks in an aquarium and you precisely know that kind of fish (caving, ...). You can see a bit about that here ... http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=26460 ...

Re: Male or female L134?
I would leave the caves there and observe all the fish for few weeks. Males preferring being in the cave doesn't mean they are there still and females preferring staying outside doesn't mean they are not there at all. All is about how much they do or don't in longer time period. Together with the ...

Re: Can female of L134 have body odontodes?
I've read somewhere sexing of these fish is not an easy task. There has been written even females do have hairy tail, though not as much as males. My seller has over 20 of them (they have bred already) and all of them do have the hair. I'm confused, anyone who has any experience with these would ...

Can female of L134 have body odontodes?
Hi all, is it possible for females of L134 to develop body odontodes, the same like males do have? Or is it impossible? I have 3 fish - one with male body shape and two with rounded belly, but they all have very noticeable body odontodes. The same like my mature L015 male. Is it possible I have ...

Re: L015 sexing
I may not know which species of Peckoltia you have but as long as you have 4-6 of them your chances of having at least one female is good and therefore you should give breeding them a try. Have you read Janne's article? http://www.planetcatfish.com/shanesworld/shanesworld.php?article_id=257&title ...

I don't know which Peckoltia spp you have but they are not the one I consider to be Peckoltia vittata. Here is a photo of the species I consider to be P. vittata. Thanks for reply Ok then, they've looked right like that to the size about 8SL. Then the stripes started to scatter a bit. The problem ...

Feed them properly and the belly of the bottom fish should get even more rounded.

Re: L015 sexing
OK, Yann has just updated my other post with some more information, re Peckoltia sp(l288) having "orange" fins. Your fish number 2 and the largest one seem to have an orange colouration on the fins, so they may be L288? Your biggest one does look different to mine, mine has much less dark brown ...

Re: L015 sexing
Thanks for reply, Hi Aldare, I bought a fish that I thought was a girl once, fully mature, and not one sign of being a boy. I'd give my score about 70% sure on all of them. Of course, you are in a much better position, as you can see the fish "live", and have probably spent hours (like I normally do) watching them before you even posted here. I'm not sure what you are going to do with those figures. Either someone is ...

First thanks for your answers. When I bought them, they were all striped without any breaks (see picture in this post). I've got 3 of them and the biggest one (I'm qute sure it is a female) had started to change the stripes to more complex lines about 4 months ago. Now it has some dots on the top ...

Re: L015 sexing
Hi guys,
I've seen some 7cm L015 in local shop few days ago and they were showing odontonal growth already. Because my is almost 10cm long, I decided to make some pictures and ask you for your opinion, whether you can say what is their sex and how sure you are about this.
Thanks a lot

Re: L015 sexing
Hi, might also be that they only develop their heavy odontodal growth during spawning season. My P. sp. "L 140" males only have their odontodal growth during (our) winter and lose it for summer. Still visible, however, are the longer cheek odontodes in males (and body shape, of course). Cheers ...
