I'm pretty sure plecos are not supposed to be that blotchy, regardless or stress or coloration. I had a "common" pleco look like that after a ammonia spike. However, it was transfered to a quarantine tank which was "algaefied" and the little guy was nursed back to health.

ouch...that sounds painful..., i once poured in aquarium salt and it burned the crap out of my amazon sword, it was nasty looking with holes in it, i take it freshwater organisms and direct contact with salt = :evil:

Thats an interesting article, thanx for pointing it out. Next time I pick up some oto's ill make sure they are quarantined and properly fed. Another article on the page makes me want to breed the little guys. Hmmm.....

You definatley want to isolate him even use a buck if u have to! Get a good fungacide and heavily aerate the water as some medications tend to lower the O2 concentration...

I'ive succesfully treated mouth fungus with methylene blue...

In terms of PH, im a fan of Seachem's Acid and Alkaline buffer. Mix em to maintain a stable PH, also has NO phosphate (no algal blooms), Its in everyone of my tanks and you can use different ratios to achieve and maintain PH levels from 6-8...

I have mixed feelings about oto cats. They are cute little buggers and sure are liked by takashi amano, but ive had the experience of unexplained initial fatalities. But once they are through the first couple of days they usually are pretty hardy.

Oto cats nor any other fish or creature will rid ...
