Re: Synodontis petricola / lucipinnis / both?
I think these are real petricola and not lucipinnis. Dont agree. The first video shows 2 fish with irregular spotted sides (M2 and F1) which to me shouts Lucipinnis. The second video shows 1 fish in the flower pot which I think is a petricola and the lower fish which I think is a lucipinnis. (M1 ...

Re: Feeding Baby Bristlenose plecos
Can I ask why you have them in a fry keeper ?
The parent will NOT bother them in any way and will protect them from most fishy predators.
They can also find their own food easier in the main tank where there will (generally) be more to eat than a bare fry keeper.

Re: Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus Fry Illness -- Help Please!
What kind of loses do you have with your fry? I dont have loses. So far this year I have sold 600 juvs and have (at a guess) 250-300 fry at the moment and have never seen a dead one yet. That is not to say that I havent had any, its just that I have never seen any. What kind of pump are you using ...

Just to add that i have used Ross at Oddball express twice now (got the last box of fish about a week ago) and have had a brilliant service, also the cichlid group that I belong too (http://www.eacichlid.co.uk) use Ross several times a year to get the hard to get specialist fish that you will never ...

2. Tank set up a) Size = 10 gallons b) Substrate = none There's your problem! Add some sand, gravel or whatever, and I guarantee that your fish will survive much better. -- Mats I have never ever used any sort of substrate with my BN's. Not an air line . . An AIR RING. Fit it all the way round the top of the wall or to the ceiling and plumb the airpump into it, then just add a tap where you want the airline to drop to. While you are waiting, why not do the eletrics, install the air ring if you are using air and other such jobs ?

Re: Best way to grow out bristlenose fry
At least 30 or more, so you can imagine how many water changes I have to do to keep the bad stuff at bay. I have approx 200-300 BN fry from 1/2 in to 1 1/2in in a 15 gallon (two lots in 2 tanks, probably totalling 400-500 fry), I do a 75% water change every other day (sometimes every 3rd day ...

Re: Breeding bristlenose problem
Dying fry can be many things, and it's hard to know what is going on in your particular case. Common causes are "bare-bottom tank", "overfeeding" and "underfeeding", along with "wrong food". Bare bottom tanks are great for upper and mid-level fish (e.g. discus, angelfish, cichlids, tetras, etc ...

I currently do 30-50% every other week but could increase that to weekly. I would have thought that you should be doing AT LEAST 20% every other day or 10% daily as you have some of the 'big boys'. The more water you change the more the fish will appreciate it (obviously within reason) I change ...

Why all the fuss ? I bought 60 Malaysian trumpet snails to introduce to one of my tanks, fed them up for several months and then moved handfuls around to the other tanks. Also noticed today while doing a tank cleanup, the males whole pectoral fin is almost as orange as the thick pectoral spine.
Looks very nice, especially when looked at from above on grey sand.

The last picture doesnt look very 'male' like to me.
The pectoral spines on the males that I've seen and kept are much thicker and a deeper orange colour.
Photo of my young male approx 1 year old.

How about the Pimelodus ornatus (£40 ?) or the Channallabes apus (£10 ?) and Hemibagrus wyckioides ?
I've been debating whether to get a few of the apus or not for a while now, I really cant decide.

Re: Breeding albino bristlenose plecos
The largest problem with BN's is getting rid of the fry. My LFS don't want them until they're close to two inches, which means I need a vegetable farm to support the grow out period. :( Jeff I feed 1/2 of a 8 inch courgette daily to each tank with a few sinking pellets whenever I'm passing the tank ...

A smaller unit will take longer to filter the water to make the 'RO water', that is all the difference is between the different size units.
