Fish spotted in Wholesale Tropicals

[A while back, Jools suggested we'd start a thread for what's been seen in the shops, but I'm doing this as a separate thread for the time being].

The other day, me and Alex (Sidguppy) visited Wholesale Tropicals. I can't remember ALL the fish we saw, but here's a brief list of the ones that stuck in my memory:

Liosomadoras morrowi

Megalodoras irwini

(5-6", £17.50)
Opsodoras stuebeli (Incorrect labeled, probably

Doras punctatus

, £8 each, and at least 4-5 fish - one on it's own in a different tank)

Leporacanthicus triactis

(nice size - 6" or so, £55)

Pseudoplatystoma tigrinum

(3-4", less than £20)

(true, but in poor condition - fungus?)

How about the Pimelodus ornatus (£40 ?) or the Channallabes apus (£10 ?) and Hemibagrus wyckioides ?

I've been debating whether to get a few of the apus or not for a while now, I really cant decide.

Yes, of course, they were there too (not sure I saw the C. apus, but certainly H. wyckoides and P. ornatus, also some Pimelodus "pictus" that were much larger than regular P. pictus, and different pattern.

Don't remember. Not cheap, but not expensive from vague memories about £30-50 [about US$50-80] [I wasn't interested in their price, as I was intent on NOT buying any fish!],

ou forgot the mediumsized Datnioides spp, the Distichodus affinis (cute lil African characin and quite rare), the fat and very healthy looking Tetraodon mbu, a fair number of oddball Characins, loaches and a truckload of Riftlake cichlids, most of whom were in good health


not to mention both Etroplus maculatus (orange form) and a shoal of very nice Etroplus suratensis; especially the latter is a very rare sight in any shop.
the second shop wasn't much but they had Poptella orbicularis, Myleus spp (at least 2 species) and Metynnis; all juveniles; the tiny Myleus were the smallest I have ever seen, maybe someone finally got to breeding them?

Myleus and Metynnis are a great dither fish in any roomy catfish tank if you're not into live plants.
Poptella doesnt eat plants, so this "miniature silver dollar" may lack the red finnage, but makes it up with a docile, less skittish character and leaving the greenery intact. with an adult size of 3"/8 cm or so it's also more suitable for the fishkeepers who have moderate sized tanks.

Thanks Mats! I'm hoping our US stores start getting some of the hypans now that the ban is being relaxed a tiny bit. Some are coming illegally, but they're $150+ea which makes putting a group together out of reach. $50-$80 isn't that far from pre-ban prices, so that's good sign.
