Re: Synodontis tanganicae -- Looking for information, more pics
So far I noticed after observing the little guy he is very active like the 4.5" male I have is. He has some of the big spots on the belly it looks like. And there are very few very very faint small spots around the body in between the big obvious spots... I'll keep you guys updated every few weeks ...

Re: Synodontis tanganicae -- Looking for information, more pics
If he wants to breed the Granulosa the way to go about it is to keep them separately, condition them with selective feeding & then bring them together for the spawning attempt. They are scatterers & for a larger syno, produce few large eggs. Quite a few people who keep them together have had ...

Re: Synodontis tanganicae -- Looking for information, more pics
How are you so sure it is lucipinnis? He imported them directly from Africa and it was in the same box labeled (and billed, all fish were accounted for and that fish was sold on purpose) as Synodontis tanganicae. How do you know it isn't just a juvenile pattern? I don't have to tell you that it is ...

Re: Synodontis tanganicae -- Looking for information, more pics
Here's some more pics of the 5 they had left at Atlantis (I only bought two). They also had an AWESOME Synodontis granulosus breeding tank setup with two of the S. granulosus being 8-9" long head to tail!!!! Just awesome. I hope they have luck with that. Peter said he wants to give them a couple ...

Re: Synodontis tanganicae -- Looking for information, more pics
You should check out the other thread for lots of photos. I got 8 of these guys from Atlantis, which is where I am guessing you are looking at these; I would act quickly they probably won't last long. The only question it looks like Richard didn't answer was: how active they are. My group of 8 is ...

Synodontis tanganicae -- Looking for information, more pics
Synodontis tanganicae I'm looking for more information, more pics, etc. Please don't link to the profile I've already have seen it. Other than from importers lists I have only seen pics of this species on this website. How do you tell them apart from similar species like S. multipunctatus, etc ...

Re: Advice on keeping and breeding Phyllonemus typus?
Well they are going to have the 55g to themselves for a few months definitely. The tangs I got are only about 1" long and no doubt will get eaten if I put them all together.
Thanks for all the info.

Re: Advice on keeping and breeding Phyllonemus typus?
Basically I am wondering that if I see the pair holding, etc, should I remove them from the tank so the other cats don't mess with them? Or are they fine until the fry are free swimming, etc? And what would be a good first food for them? I figured because of their larger mouths that flakes should be ...

Re: Advice on keeping and breeding Phyllonemus typus?
I have a quick question...
When a pair does form, will they protect the juveniles from the cichlids and the other catfish? And how long should I leave the juveniles in there with them? I'm thinking I should remove them as soon as I seem them free swimming.

Re: Bagarius bagarius
Well if they got a different species of Bagarius in, like the Goonch one, if it is small I'll probably end up getting one for the novelty and decide as it grows whether to keep it or not. if I don't keep it obviously I'll find a good home for it. I'm sure someone from Monsterfishkeepers would love ...

Bagarius bagarius
An importer real close to me occassionally has them on their list for special order (not in stock). They said they ordered them but got the wrong ones (not sure if it is a different species of Bagarius or a different kind altogether). Anyway with Bagarius bagarius, what tanks can they go in? How ...

Re: Advice on keeping and breeding Phyllonemus typus?
Thanks for all the information. For tankmates I bought 4 f1 Julidochromis marleri Burundi and 4 f1 Neolamprologus leleupi. They're too small to join the catfish now (1.5-2", but I'm worried the catfish will look at them as spaghetti  ) so the catfish will have the tank to themselves ...

Re: Advice on keeping and breeding Phyllonemus typus?
Thanks for the info. Also, one last question. A very reliable and well known breeder (though I will not name names) told me he saw a friend of his Phyllonemus catfish that was pretty old at 8-9". Is that possible? Or was it a different species of Phyllonemus or are they mistaken on the identity? I ...

Hi, I decided I am going to put them in a 55g tank. I believe I know enough thanks to you and people with experience breeding them on another forum. Re: Advice on keeping and breeding Phyllonemus typus?
So you think a 30g-breeder tank would be good for them (unless I have more caves than there are catfish it sounded like you were saying in a 20gal-long or 29gal)? I was thinking of getting two more by the way from the same importer that donated the fish I bought. If I get two more, should I get ...

Advice on keeping and breeding Phyllonemus typus?
Advice on keeping and breeding Phyllonemus typus? I won a bag of four wildcaught supposedly 2m2f at a local auction for $20usd but now knowing that they are wildcaught I am thinking of putting them in their own 20g-high or 20g-Long (or even a 15g) if you guys agree that those sizes would be fine for ...

A lot of companies hormone inject their Synodontis catfish to make offspring from wild parents. Out of curiosity, what exactly are they injecting and does it affect the health of the offspring? Is it just a hormone that gets the males and females laying eggs and breeding, or is it artificial ...

Re: New Synodontis decorus not eating
For a few weeks the dominant one kept terrorizing the littler one and cutting up his skin pretty bad. Well, good news this week. While I do see the dominant one occasionally chase it away from himself, I never see them scuffle badly anymore or non-stop pursuits and they seem to be getting a long. In ...

Re: New Synodontis decorus not eating
They keep on fighting every hour or so....none are seriously injured though. I bought a 2ft long 4"-diameter piece of PVC and had it cut in half for the catfish to use hopefully. Personally as long as they don't kill each other and they both still eat I am not going to worry about them... I am ...

Re: New Synodontis decorus not eating
In preparation for a shipment of fish coming in tuesday (I sometimes use the quarantine as a temporary growout if the fish I am growing out are too small to put in the 120g) I moved the catfish back into the main tank. Time will tell if the other decorus will welcome his new tankmate or bring on ...

So far good news.... I'm going to continue treatment until next week when I will consider re ...

Re: S. angelicus-is it true that they are vicious to eachother?
Er, yes i think so. Petricola are a small species & decorus are a gentle giant, so there should be no aggro in a 7foot, if that's what you want. Personally i would go for all tanganyikan synos in a tank like that, but that's cos they're my sorta thing  Well personally I like the look of ...

Does this look like pure Synodontis petricola? They're being sold as wildcaughts: http://tntcichlids.com/New_Pics/Synodontis%20Petricola.jpg Do you think if I got saw 3 or 4 of those, do you think they would get a long with the S. decorus already in the tank, or would I have to remove the S. decorus ...

Re: S. angelicus-is it true that they are vicious to eachother?
Maybe I'll get a small group (3-5) of Synodontis petricolas if my S. decorus don't work out soon... In the mean time though, any advice for making the decorus more comfortable, so they don't fiercely fight each other over caves? I currently have two and won't be able to get any more any time soon ...

I came in to my LFS on Saturday and some other "customers" where there handing over a big bucket of (I think) Malawi Cichlidae, but in the bucket was also a rather large S. decorus as identified by the staff. Being rather cautious regards the risk of hybrids, I went home to check the Cat-eLog, and ...

Re: S. angelicus-is it true that they are vicious to eachother?
Marduk, I haven't heard your opinion on the less expensive Tanganyika Syno's wich still are a lot more suitable than either angelicus or decorus a large group of petricola or multipunctatus or a smaller group of the large but peaceful dhonti or tanganicae or true polli would really boost this tank ...
